Speaking of him, not sure if you had seen the post or heard the news, but Stitzel-Weller distillery will be re-opening under new management.

I read that. Was the magic in the building or the water or the mash bill? I guess we can look forward to whatever comes out of it sometime around 2025.

Next time I head there to visit my brother, I'll have to check it out.

As a bourbon noob, I have a quick question

When you drink bourbon neat, is it chilled or room temp?

Supposed to be room temp, in a glass, no ice. At least as far as I know.

When drinking at home, if trying a new bourbon, I'll take a sip of it neat to see. They usually add a splash of water or a few cubes of ice to it.

Personal preference really. For many of the purists, if you're going to try to "taste" a whiskey, it should be room temperature and poured in a tasting glass to get the full aroma, air it out, etc. If you're just sipping a fine whiskey, it's perfectly fine to have it neat at either chilled or room temp. Most of the time, when I'm enjoying a good glass of whiskey, I'll often pour it over a couple cubes of ice. That allows me to get the initial full flavor with a hint of chill then enjoy the rest of it chilled a little diluted due to the ice melting.

Elmer T Lee is going down a little too easy tonight. Could be an interesting night

For those who haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favor and go get some. It really is one of the best values out there.

ETL is very good. Very woody. I had some friends over and we were making old fashioneds and eventually ran out of Bulleit Rye, and this was the next cheapest bourbon I had that I was willing to part with. I need to buy a handle of Makers and hide the good shite from my slacker friends.

That's what she said.

Yeah, you always have to have a bottle of cheaper stuff for those who don't have a clue of the differences.

Your Wednesday whiskey drinking has inspired me to pour a glass of Four Roses Single Barrel.

We should start "Whiskey Wednesday" in this thread, and do our part to contribute to Hump Day Alcoholism.

Well, hell. I just poured my first glass of WL Weller 12. Very, very good. For $25 I can't imagine better. If I did a blind test between this and the VWFR 12, I don't think I'd choose correctly every time.

Or keep the empty bottle of the good stuff, and fill it with the cheaper stuff. Win-win.

Been lurking this thread for a while, here's my current selection.

Dr. Beardface thank you for your recommendations, as you can see I'm now an Elmer fan as well. My local store now stocks it, but can't keep it on the shelf so I buy a few whenever they have it.

Got the Eagle Rare 101 a few months ago at an old country store. Much better than the current version, bottled in 1984 I think.

Yep, should last me a few. Elmer can be hard to find here in North Louisiana so I keep a few on hand. Had the Weller 12 for the first time last weekend and it is now my second favorite in the $25-$30 price range.
