Had late lunch at High Hat, and then strolled over to Vals for happy hour. The next morning, we went to Bearcat Cafe for breakfast. All three were excellent.

What other places should I check out on Freret?

Different styles of burgers. High Hat is a thicker type burger and Company Burger is more of a diner style. Both are really good.

Yeah Company Burger feels closer to a steakburger but overall the quality is great. It's a comfortable price for what you're getting, at least that's how it was last time I went. We went days before a Pelicans game right before COVID happened.

Definitely hit up Cure, its my favorite bar in New Orleans (not counting Bacchanal).

Pimento cheeseburger at High Hat is great.

Company burger is also great, but it's more of a thin double patty type, rather than a thick burger like High Hat. Both very good.

Mint is solid casual Vietnamese.

Humble Bagel + Mojo Coffee for breakfast

Ancora would be a lovely lunch option

Ancora. Great drinks and staff. Get a pizza and the gnocchi.

High Hat, Val’s & Cure all have a cross over of ownership

High Hat in its short time has become an institution. Great spot.

I don’t dislike Bearcat, I just don’t get it though.

Ancora and Pigeon & Whale are two other great spots right there.

Windowsill Pies is a fun little dessert place.

Sucre just opened across the street from them.

Midway Pizza is a deep dish/thicker style crust. They do salads very well there and have some monster mozzarella sticks

Pigeon and whale is killing it on all fronts, but their drink specialty is definitely the negroni. Good bar menu, albeit a little one night, and great food. For a high end meal, they're hard to beat.

Ancoras bar program is not to be slept on. Great pizza and appetizers, haven't explored anything else on their menu. Bartender knows his shite and can make some really creative stuff, all riffs on various cocktails with an added amaro or cello.

Cure has the overall best cocktails in the city for my money. Their apps are good but if you're looking for an app that will actually put a dent in your hunger, you're better off going to Ancora.

Company Burger is a burger... It's a good burger, not a life changing one.

Does Ancora still do reverse happy hour? It was like half priced wine, draft beer and half off a few select pizzas from 9-12
