The process is totally worthless and a waste of time.

"Don't Soak Your Wood. This Myth Is Busted."

"Why do you think they build boats out of wood? Because wood doesn't absorb water!"

I don't soak chunks. I soak chips. (I don't buy chips but they have been given to me before)

You need to head over to The Virtual Weber Bullet site and bulletin board.

It is THE place to get info on how to use and modify a WSM or other Weber product. The bulletin board is active, and the vibe is very friendly and helpful. I have learned a ton of tips and recipes there. If nothing else, read the FAQ section.

They generally say to throw away the owner's manual and ignore it. That said, the manual is correct on the soak issue. As noted above, wood does not soak up much water. See canoes. But you can if you want to. Won't hurt anything.

Don't soak, never soak. Use chunks, only and read the virtual weber board as stated earlier. That's all you need to know!!

This....also don't use water in water pan, just wrap in foil, helps form bark better.
