Beer Bistro. Try the spicy red Thai mussels. They also have fries cooked in duck fat and some great beers.

Listen I don't normally recomend, but this place is where I would take a high value client back when I had a brokerage in Toronto, real french service, for my money better than 95% of the steak houses I have ever eaten in and that's saying a lot...
LINK
not just the steaks either, they have a double thick pork chop with crumbled blue cheese that is a bit of heaven...place has been there, hidden just off Yonge st. since 1959...very reasonable prices too...

You can get a great steak in any city, I would suggest you check out some of the excellent ethnic foods the town has to offer.

If you are downtown, these are cheap and all incredible:
Bellwoods Brewery
Fresh
NY Subs (not subs, but awesome curried burritos)
Harlem
Ali's Roti's
Woodlot (a bit pricier)

Also - go to the Communist Daughter Saturday afternoon and see the singing bartender if you have a chance, I think its 4-6pm. Great little bar and unique experience

I ate at a Ruth's Chris there that was very good and I ate at another place that was good. It had a very nice piano bar in a separate room and was downtown as I recall. I'll try to figure it out.

I would like the opportunity to do Quebec for a week it is the closest thing to Paris/Lyon on this side of the pond. An old production I think that was in the No Reservation series had the host doing all things duck in it. It went from the farm to menus that used everything but a-hole. The killing and preparation of the ducks for sale took about three maybe four minutes. The consuming of foie gras dishes was done to obscene levels.

ETA I have myself a duck pate de compagne awaiting the Super Bowl to spread on some crackers or home made croutons.

Dress warm – its been damn cold in ONT the past few days – will “warm up” to about 20 on weekend ……. Use public transit – buy a day pass – good for subways/street cars. Subways are a great option downtown. Also use the PATH system – its undergnd walkway system in down town TO
Depends on where you are staying but if you are down town head down queen st (yeah it’s the gay distrct but lots of good reastaurants there) theatre district is good too, if you want entertainment Sat night and don’t have $400 for maple leaf hky tkts – go to wayne gretzkys bar/rest (its near the Air Canada ctr) – and see the crazy leaf fans
Sat morning go down to st. Lawrence market – lots of cafes food vendors etc
As far as specific restaurants to go to – TO is a huge city there is every kind of cuisine you may want (not much good Cajun tho…..), lots of good Caribbean, Japanese, chinese in china town,. Check w/ your hotel for stuff close by. If you want to try ice skating go to outdoor rink at city hall – very cool
