Times Grill Baton Rouge- What's the Deal

I stopped in to times grill this evening with a buddy at about 8. Albeit late for a Monday, nothing crazy, especially with mnf. There was literally no one in the place. No one greeted us, we sat ourselves at the bar, took about 5 mins for someone to come to the bar. Food was exactly what I expected: a above average burger, decent fries, and a cold beer. Completely taken aback at the lack of people. We even had to ask about turning the sound on for the game as it was dead silent. The staff, the little there was started cleaning up the bar long before we were finished which was strange. Left at half time of the game and the doors were locked on us.
I was under the impression that this place was popular, guess I was wrong. Unsure if I have a question or just oddly ranting about a place with decent food and not terrible service, yet horrible patronage.
Anyone been recently?

No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

When was it popular? Pretty much everything on Essen survives on our lady of the lake, which is mostly a lunch crowd.

I've been in the past and while it wasn't slammed it was certainly crowded. Just taken aback this evening

I haven't been in a year or so, but my guess is they've lost business to the Rum House and the new upscale burger joints in town (Burgersmith, Fat Cow, Mooyah). Shoot, I bet Olive or Twist has taken some of the folks who would go there for a post work drink. I remember one of the last times I was there -- the staff of a medical clinic was there for a Christmas party. You know all those women are going to Olive or Twist or Rum House now.

Used to go there for MNF and we were still watching a game one night and they were trying to rush us out of there.
If you are a restaurant don't advertise MNF beer specials and expect people to leave before the game is over.
I found the burgers to be good, everything else was just ok. Service was spotty at times also.

I like the Times burgers but with the time change, people are maybe just getting used to it and heading home at dark.. I noticed Rum House was unusually dead yesterday too.

I haven't been there in a while, but I used to go a good bit when I lived on Kenilworth, and it was always fairly busy. Even for dinner there was at least 75% capacity almost every time.
Might just be a combo of Monday night and the time change had people there earlier?
Or maybe they are legit struggling.

Google says they close @ 9, not 10 like most places.
Might have something to do with it.
Anyway, I have never been impressed with the place.

This too. I stopped at Calandros after work, and was dreading the mob of people I usually have to push past in the beer section... There was not a single soul around.

We were unaware that they closed at 9. So some of that is our fault I suppose. Didnt think a place with a ton of tv's and a decent bar would shut down by halftime of a MNF game.

last time I was there (which has been a few years since I moved to alexandria) my group ordered burgers and I ordered the chicken tender basket. Everyone got their burgers medium well so when waitress asked what I wanted, I said tender basket medium well. She came back to tell me that the cook had to cook tenders all the way and not medium well, wtf!! I told her that I was joking about that, probably spit in my food, but that was my last experience.

I used to work at a restaurant that closed at 9. Because of it, I check closing times before I go anywhere past 7. People used to occasionally hang around until 10pm, not realizing we had been closed for an hour. BUT.. we made it pretty obvious. Place was empty, TV was off, etc.

Agree. I understand closing @ 9 if you have a place with not much night business (which was the case where I worked), but I don't think you should advertise football games and drink specials if you don't actually want people to take advantage of them.
Of course, ownership (who is doing the advertising) may have wanted you to stay.. while staff couldn't care less about your business and just wants to go home when they close
