So, my position on beer:

**I LOVE IPAs
**Yes, I read about beer and beer styles
**If I'm buying "blind" and my only choice is by six pack, I'm looking at reviews on my phone. As someone stated earlier, I'm looking for a few keywords
**I drink what I like
**I don't care what anyone else drinks, likes or dislikes

If this makes me a douchebag beer snob, print the t shirts.

As a hipster that doesn't like IPA's, this thread offends me.

Sazz.... aka the hop that essentially defines the Czech pilsner style??

No idea, but I have hated at least 4 of them. Funny thing is, my favorite beer is Summer Pils. So sad it's probably about to go away for another year along with Nooner.

So you like ghost? See here's the issue, you don't really hate IPA's, you just hate certain IPA's. And IPA's arent' a fad, it's a style. The new wave of IPA's (which west coasters are calling a fad are the "juicy" IPA's like ghost. There is a lot of hate for it because its not to style, but it helps in transitioning IPA haters like yourself into liking them. Why? Because they are extracting more flavor from the hops rather than the bitterness.

Now if you don't like bitterness, i understand that. I love IPA's but i have friends that despise them. Yet they'll drink an Envie or Ghost and say "that's actually not bad, not like that other shite".

You're IPA hate is waning AlxTgr. There is hope for you yet!

I can tell you one/some I don't like. Whatever in the hell Lagunitas uses. They managed to ruin a Pils.

This is a good writeup and mostly how I feel about their Pils:

Overview Lagunitas makes only one lager—this old-school pilsner—and the quality here is high enough that we wouldn’t mind seeing more.

Flavors and aromas There is corn in the nose here—not unusual for a pilsner—along with light and sweet grain flavors, and some “hoppy snap,” as one taster put it. Malt dominates at first, and bitterness starts slowly but builds, gradually moving from softly American to Bohemian levels and edging into German lager territory. Floral flavor hops carry things along nicely throughout."

irony is that hating IPA's more of a contrarian hipster opinion than liking them at this point.

Right? I thought sours were much more hipster, by a good bit.

You can't always trust the 'style' on a beer to be a true representation of the style.

For example St Arnold's Oktoberfest is a Scotch Ale, and their 'Summer Pils' is a Munich Helles not a pilsner.

Nope, that doesn't make you one in my book. People just have bad reading comprehension and get their panties in a wad too easily here. And I love it!

I agree that many IPAs are unbalanced and hard to drink as a result. If you typically hate IPAs but like Ghost then you should look at other IIPAs / DIPAs. IIPAs with ABV > 7.5% have more residual sugars to balance the bitter. I tend to avoid IPAs with ABV < 6.5% for that reason. An IBU to ABV ratio of 10:1 seems to please.

LOL sorry man, but if the shoe fits...

FWIW I went to the Wicked Weed Funkatorium in Asheville a couple of weeks ago and they're doing some pretty impressive stuff. I'm not sure what their distribution is in La. but we get some of it in Atlanta.

I love sours, IPAs, stouts, wheats, saisons, porters, lagers, and everything in between. I even like crushing BMC on the course or while tailgating.

On this website over the years, I've been called a hipster, a redneck, a metrosexual, classy, trashy, a liberal, a conservative, a trumpkin, a cuck, an evangelical, an atheist, rich, poor, a baw, a gay, a misogynist, and whipped.

Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has them, and they usually stink. The things you like don't define who you are.

OK, nobody has ever actually called me classy. But I am classy as frick.

I don't think sours have gotten to hipster stage yet. Sours are still too niche and not enough people know about them. Your casual beer drinker has heard of an IPA. Not many casual beer drinkers have heard of "Brett" or Sour beers.

Will you stop with the "this is hilarious, you people are silly, i love it!" schtick? We get it. You made a sweeping generalization and then had to backtrack and continually redefine what you "really meant". People make mistakes, we'll forgive you!

I couldn't agree with you more. Beer is like music to me, my taste varies widely depending on my mood and situation.

Honestly, I don't even know what qualifies as a hipster anymore. I was mostly speaking to current industry trends. I feel like sours are everywhere these days and seem to be what is pushing the envelope whereas I don't see IPA's as trendy whatsoever.

Almost, except not even close. I was very clear in what I said, but some people choose to feel like it hit too close to home and had to defend themselves. It's ok. I forgive you too.

I think you missed the point, but sure, there are douchebag beer snobs

They are well known enough that Nola Brewery has a dedicated bomber line to sours.
