Christmas.
I'm a traditional guy, so I want turkey and the trimmings at Thanksgiving. Christmas, you can have other things to eat -- a good seafood gumbo, a nice smoked ham. Shoot, me and the wife our tradition is to have some good steaks on Christmas Eve after we open our presents.

just prefer an oyster gratin

That recipe sounds awesome. I'll never be able to persuade the family to get rid of the dressing though. Might have to try the gratin dish for thanksgiving.

My grandmothers oyster dressing was fantastic. No bread, just ground pork, onions, oyster liquor, chicken livers and gizzards.

I make it for myself at the holidays as none of my Yankee family or friends will touch it

That sounds awesome. My brother lived in Kenner for several years after college and he used to bring oyster dressing up from Williams Seafood which was close to his apartment. The stuff was incredible. Now, he makes sure that he has an excuse to drive down there from St. Amant to get the dressing for thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving dominates Christmas.

After the Thanksgiving meal, you're expected to retire to the couch, watch football, and take a nap. No pressure of presents, no other shite going on. You just get drunk, get full, watch football, and pass out. It's the perfect holiday.

Thanksgiving.

Christmas is just regular food. And it's not that it isn't good; it's just regular things in our family.. a gumbo or something.

Plus, it's usually crab and corn soup I was so happy when a few people posted that in the "bad party foods" thread the other day. Couldn't agree more.

Thanksgiving food, though

This too. It's funny how much you change as you grow up. As a kid, I was never nearly as into Thanksgiving as I was Christmas.

Now, I love Thanksgiving much more. Although I do love the Christmas season.

Thanksgiving. We go to my in-laws and there's 12-15 people and way too much food.

Christmas is much more low-key. Christmas Eve we go to church, then to the in-laws to open presents and it's usually just snack-type food there. Christmas Day is spent with just my husband and the kids (used to be my folks too before they died), so we just cook something for us. Usually something a little more special than regular weeknights, like crab quiche or gumbo or maybe a small ham with a few sides, but nothing like the spread at Thanksgiving.

Christmas, we usually spare no expense and try and do something different each year.

thanksgiving is usually the traditional spread which I get bored with, going to do a drunk turkey smoked on the green egg this year so hoping that will be awesome.
