I'm not sure we ever had a review on T&T, and it seemed to be on borrowed time since they opened. It's time that Adolfo's posse washed their hands of this place.

quote:

Juan Contreras, owner of El Gato Negro, said he would serve the same menu in the Warehouse District as at his French Quarter and Lakeview restaurants. The Warehouse District location, however, has a full bar, which will let him expand the bar menu. It will also have a larger wine list.

Contreras was still waiting to examine the space with his contractor. He said he could not predict how long it would take to complete minor renovations and train the staff

El Gato will probably do well in this area, but they're not getting my business. Too many good spots in that neighborhood.

I generally like the food they put out, I just don't really like their menu - if that makes sense.

That's my feeling on the place. The food is always pretty good, but it's forgettable. I guess if I was nearby for lunch I might pop-in, but it's not worth a dinner trip. IMO

Walked by it once and was shocked that is what followed Rio Mar in a great space. I guess these guys were hoping to pick off some of the Republic pre-party overflow crowd from Rock N Sake. Horrible name and business model. I am surprised they even lasted this long.

The wife and I had one of the worst Mexican meals of our life at El Gato in the FQ a couple of years ago. The Lakeview location was a better experience but that's not saying much. Place is overrated.

For the record I predicted tacos and tequila closing within the year on here. Then again Ray charles saw that coming.

86% on Urban Spoon and 4 stars on Yelp.

Place is slammed every time I walk by it.

Compared that to El Tiempo in Houston which has the exact same online ratings and is also busy but the food and drinks at el gate aren't even in the same stratosphere.

It's the definition of overrated.

I didn't realize it was in the old RioMar…that place didn't last long at all…we went to RioMar during the last week in business and that felt like yesterday
