I just heard about this place for the first time tonight.

It sounds interesting, but just hoping it's more than a food court.

Who here as been?

I know it is set up like a food court, I am talking quality of food like a food court.

Is the food legit or just fast food.

The prices seem pretty low (like fast food). Low prices mean low quality to me. If you skimp on good ingredients, you turn out subpar food.

Food trucks in a food court is actually a very good description. Had a good experience last weekend and it wasn't what I would call cheap.

I was just saying the prices seem a little low for New Orleans and just maki g sure it's legit.

I want to do a "round the world" (no sexual puns) there. Get two or three couples, try a couple things from every kitchen. Do a tasting tour.

too bad, either one of those could take it up a notch

I don't think much of it, personally. Are there some solid items to be had? Sure. But none of it is right. To me, everything there is just off. Some weird combination of price, quality, and atmosphere just makes it something that doesn't work for me. That's not to say it's expensive, or low quality, or completely shite atmosphere. It's just after you put it all together I remain nonplussed by it.

After a little more research and comments here, I believe I'm going to give it a try.

Looks like a cool place to do some photography.

Very good place for photos. Food is above avg and well priced. Place gets a ton of hate, but its primarily because Landrieu took the federal grant money on the basis of building a green grocer. This place is anything but a green grocer.

It's solid.

I went Saturday morning and had a couple Bloody Mary's with a crab cake potatoe hash and a soft boiled egg.

Can't get any of that at any other food court I've been to.

tried the smoked duck gumbo and red beans and rice from one of the vendors there and really liked both. not cheap, however.

I had the same, smoked duck gumbo from Creole King. It was very good. A lot like a Lafayette gumbo. Also had a bread pudding and vanilla ice cream from the dessert vendor in the front of the store (can't remember the name). Delicious.
I hear some complain that the space isn't what it was when they grew up, and that the space was "over-gentrified".

Can I get a description or visual aid of some sort that expresses the delineation between "under-gentrified," "appropriately-gentrified," and "over-gentrified"?

I'm not quite certain where the boundaries are.

I used to stop in a couple times a week before going to work. Haven't been in several months.

I wouldn't call it cheap, or expensive. There is a solid mix of food that ranges from cheap street food to adventurous plates seen in restaurants around the city.

Some of the vendors have food trucks so they give of that vibe, but many of them serve food that wouldn't really work on a food truck.

Bourree would be a good fit in there.

I would definitely not say it was cheap.

It's basically a high end food court with local places. Lots of family run small operations. I've found the food is good and is priced accordingly considering the quality.

I think it has three things going against it:

1) The location - it's not in what one would consider a super safe area.

2) A lot of people were hoping that it would be more like the former self - basically a seafood and farmer's market. NOLA has an amazing lack of seafood and meat vendor markets. And the French Market, you have to deal with parking, which turns people off.

3) It may be before it's time in this area. This kind of concept is really new here and I'm not sure people are really buying into it. They also have had a fair amount of vendor turnover.
