I think the best blue cheese dressing mainly depends on a high proportion of cheese. (Duh). Please share your best recipe.

Tessie's Place, which is hanging on by a thread by serving lunch only, has a very good one. They don't supply the recipe but you can buy it by the pint there.

I also remember Charlie's Steakhouse having a classic wedge with outstanding tangy blue cheese dressing.

I love Susan Spicer's Balsamic Vinaigrette. It's simple, cheap, and goes well on lots of different salads and vegetables.

This simple balsamic dressing is so much better than the bottled variety. I like to toss it with some mixed salad greens, chopped apples, Craisins, toasted nuts and crumbled blue cheese.

Makes 1 cup, or enough for 8 first-course salads

2 tbsp balsamic vinaigrette
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp plus 1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp honey
3/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
salt and pepper

Whisk together the vinegars, mustard, and honey in a small bowl, then gradually whisk in the olive oil. Taste the dressing and finish by adding lemon juice, and salt and pepper, to taste.

The best lemon vinaigrette I have found is: 1 cup of oil, 1/2 cup of water, and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. 2 pinches of coarse black pepper.

Diced onions, celery, and thinly sliced lemons can help with adding flavor to the dressing. Its also a very good marinade too.

Very simple but works very well.

I can attest to this. The recipe is so simple to make at home with a minimum of readily available ingredients and tastes so close to that insanely priced stuff in the jar you'll wonder why you ever bought it in the first place.

I am bookmarking this thread, because I am always looking to make salad dressings. I seem to fail whenever I try to throw something together on my own

Cousin's Creole Tomato Salad Dressing Clone

Several people mentioned that they like Cousin's Creole Tomato Salad Dressing. Here is my copycat recipe you can try. The original product only had these 4 ingredients, but now the formula has been changed to prolong shelf life (according to a friend that knows the maker). The garlic, being raw, gives the dressing a nice "bite".

This is the original recipe.

4 cups mayonnaise
3/4 cup chopped tomato
1/2 cup peeled garlic cloves
1 Tbs black pepper

Put all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth.

Is there a vinegar component? Sounds terrible otherwise

The acid is Lemon juice. If you want a more pungent taste, use lime juice.

one simple one I haven't used since college, but was something my brother and I always did for salads was olive oil, garlic rice wine vinegar, and tony's...sometimes we'd add a splash of worchestshire sauce or soy.
