Plan to cook it this weekend by my oven is currently on the fritz. Would it come out just as good doing it over the stove on low heat?

My mom used to to do this with a roast by just putting a lil bit of water and let it cook all day.

I always cook roasts on the stove.

buy a chuck
stuff with garlic and season.
brown the hell out of it
take it out and add onions/bellpeppers
sautee
add roast back in
add water and cook til it's tender

serve with rice and some good ole purple hull peas.

I know many folks who cook roasts on low on the stove. A crock pot will also take care of your issue.

Thanks everyone.

My crockpot has been 50/50 when I do roasts in them lately. Sometimes they come out super tough. Could I be adding too much liquid? Could it be my crockpot?

I made the donald link one in the cookbook a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic, not sure how it would do on the stove

Up vote on Links recipe. Made it last weekend. Incredible gravy for the rice.

I cook all my roasts on the stove top. Stuff it, brown the outside before adding onions and liquid, and let it simmer for 4-5 hours

I do it on low for about 8 hours normally. How much liquid do you suggest? My mom would put about an inch and it always came out amazing.

Usually keep about an inch for the first 4 hours, then add more for the last hour so I have more gravy to top my rice. This thread is going to make me defrost a butt and smother it Sunday.

This came out amazing btw. Thanks

I did have to turn the heat up higher than I expected when doing it on the stovetop. More med-low rather than low.

I could eat this everyday. It's sooo good
