Good evening. Has anyone used Smithey before? If so, what are your experiences, and do you have a skillet with lif or an oven? I have been thinking about the 12” with lid, but haven’t known anyone to give an honest opinion. They are pricey, so i am hestitant

I’ve had this dual handle a couple of years. I love the size and the dual handle is nice to finish steaks, chicken, etc in the oven, but if I’m being honest, I can’t say the cast iron is better than other less-expensive options. I bought it for the large cooking area without the single long handle.

I appreciate your honesty. If i could spring it, hell ya, Id be all over it. But, i have many sizes of lodge and an enamel dutch oven that work just fine. Just trying to justify the price.

I have their carbon steel WOK and 2 cast iron pans. The craftsmanship and quality are excellent. These are pans that will last a lifetime.

I have their carbon steel, pretty stuff.

Not sure how I would justify the price based on cooking ability or quality. But it is pretty.

Can get something that does the same exact thing for much much cheaper.

I have that pan. It is almost worthless. I use it occasionally for searing in the grill

Nice looking pan. I've looked at those and some other, domestic, newly forged cast iron. Never pulled the trigger on any of those pieces however. I prefer to hit Goodwill and estate sales for vintage pieces that I can strip and re-season. Just trying to buy stuff made in the USA or by friends. I did pay a good price for a German-made enameled brazer. It's a nice pan and not as heavy as a cast iron version would be.

I have that one as well. Anytime I cook anything in it, I get a metallic taste in the food. I would love for someone to educate me on what I'm doing wrong. Also, after you use it, it doesn't look like that anymore.

I cook in other cast iron pots and skillets all the time and never have the metallic taste issue.

I have a few of their pans and one carbon steel and I use them almost daily. At the end of the day, they're cast iron just like a Lodge, but they're hand made in the USA and they're beautiful pieces. They seem to be a little harder than other pans to keep pretty, but it's a labor of love. If you can swing the price, I'd definitely try one.

We have a couple of Field company cast iron skillets. They’re pricy but really nice and are used all the time.

I have a Field 12 that I absolutely love. Super even cooking and damn near non stick.

I have two Smitheys

I have had an easier/better time with them than my prior Lodge pieces, but as nearly everyone with any competency in the kitchen says Lodge is completely fine, I expect that's 90% just my own inability.

Thank you everyone who has replied. I have never heard of Field Company. I will check them out as well. I feel there is a level of assuance when purchasing something of this caliber or price. If it’s not a skillet its a nice chef knife or Japanese gyuto
