Obviously, we want fish tacos and good Mexican food. I know they have a "Little Italy" district, so we also wouldn't be opposed to good Italian food or pizza.

That said, where to eat and drink? Breweries (I know of Stone and Ballast Point). Coffee? Dessert?

Im a point Loma seafoods guy for a casual spot. There’s a marina right there with charter boats coming in so it’s a fun spot to hang out for a little bit.

Coolest cocktail bar in the United States is The Noble Experiment downtown. Will require reservations.

For beer, see if Horus is doing any releases while you’re there. The Modern Times Point Loma location has to be the #1 destination. Amazing beer available at the brewery and amazing beer to go. BA stouts, sours, ipas, everything. Abnormal has kickass food and delicious beers. Ballast Point usually has BA Victory at Seas on.

Cheers!

Ballast Point is pretty cool. Had a blast at False Idol, awesome little speakeasy tiki bar.

Anything that ends in berto is usually good. Spent a few years there while in the Marines. Definitely get some California burritos. Lived off of those and carne asada fries and breakfast burritos while there.

There is a restaurant above Pt. Loma Sport Fishing that is a a great hole in the wall. They make a killer breakfast, fish tacos are great serve liquor and the dinners are great as well. Highly recommended. I grew up in the county and whenever we go back I hit this place up several times.

This list is La Jolla centric but here it is:

100% absolutely have to do lunch, dinner, and/or drinks at George’s at the Cove. Make reservations and make sure you specify upstairs deck seating. It is on Prospect St., which is in the heart of La Jolla.

The Spot and Jose’s Mexican are good restaurant spots also on Prospect

The Cottage in La Jolla is a good breakfast spot.

For fish tacos, highly recommend Rubio's Coastal Grill. Get the side of refried beans and put some of their homemade hot sauce on them.

The Taco Shop on Pearl St., in La Jolla has great authentic Mexican street style tacos including cactus. No seating and always a long line.

The Shack Bar and Grill on La Jolla Blvd. is a dive bar with amazing food. The fish tacos are grilled and the portions are huge. Good cocktails as well. For authentic tacos also try Rigobertos and/or Robertos in Mission Beach. These are all kind of hole in the wall type places.

For more high end dining, Beaumont’s is a nice place with good food and a nice atmosphere. It’s on La Jolla Blvd.

Sammy’s Woodfire Pizza is also good for a quick meal. I have not been but Duke’s La Jolla is highly rated and a bit more upscale. It is right next to George’s at the Cove.

The Marine Room is also a good high end choice for dinner. Same with Crab Catcher. There are also lots of hip high end dining spots in the Gaslamp that you can find with a quick google search.

There is a little sandwich shop on Pearl St., in La Jolla called the Promiscuous Fork that we discovered. Really eclectic menu and the food was great.

Of course, In-n-Out.

I might be in the minority here but La Jolla was a big pile of meh.

Yea we went and did that patio restaurant, which was very good, but the town got old after an hour or so.

Seconded on Point Loma Seafoods. Grab some smoked fish, seal it up, and bring it back in your luggage. Wahoo, Salmon are outstanding and Tuna is probably great also.

This is a bit all over the place as far as location but the last time I was there, I felt like these spots had really good food. Rakiraki Ramen and Tsukemen is possibly the best ramen I've ever had. Crack Shack was a cool spot for outdoor eating with good taps in the city. Pipes cafe was a nice spot for breakfast burritos and a walk on Solana beach. Pacific Beach Fish Shop was great fish tacos. Outside of those places, I had some misses that I wouldn't recommend.
