My boss went for breakfast this morning and they are closed. Also, they don't have menus for their daily lunches up for this week.

A couple of weeks ago there was only 1 waitress left. She said business was slow and the other waitresses were laid off.

I was in there a few weeks ago and it just wasn't the same to me.

Also, what about the old Crawfish Place? I see it is something new but haven't been in it. Didn't get into the Crawfish Place too often. Not too bad just wasn't on my radar.

It's called Mike Willie's now, went and ate their last Wednesday. I got a Buffalo Shrimp Poboy that was pretty damn good with onion rings.

guys, sadly this is a trend that is going to be played out over and over in the first quarter of 2010 ... those that survive will make it, but a lot won't ... you have dumbasses like Johnny Deangelo that has customers and pisses it away .. and you have a good place like samuel's that always treated people well that have to close because they don't have customers ...

people would be shocked at the names and numbers of legit restaurants that are in deep trouble ...

Rag, do you think this will be a trend even with the Bigger Restaurants that have opened new loactions over the last few years...IE the Walk Ons/Sammys?

Or do you think it is effecting the smaller time types only?

Last I heard, she was involved with real estate and was expecting a child.

I didn't know Sammy real well, but he was always a good guy whenever I did see him. I've told this story before, but I had a message on my cell phone from Sammy a few days before he died. I knew what he wanted was no big deal, so I figured I'd call him back the following week. That'll teach me to procrastinate. I felt like crap for not returning his call immediately.

I'm pretty sure that Samuels had a deal that when they opened in the Industriplex area that the civic association made it so that they were to be the only restaurant in that association...Riverside Patty & The Crawfish Place were outside of that association. If that ruling in still in place, someone could turn Samuels into a very good biz again.

So youre saying that the reason for the closing was Samuels Restaurants own fault and not the economy?

To be honest, I didn't eat there very often and don't know why they closed. I do remember the place being packed around lunch time everyday when Sammy was around. I worked near them.
