I'm pretty sure that Samuels had a deal that when they opened in the Industriplex area that the civic association made it so that they were to be the only restaurant in that association..

His cousin Charles Dagostino protected it for him.

I've told this story before, but I had a message on my cell phone from Sammy a few days before he died. I knew what he wanted was no big deal, so I figured I'd call him back the following week.

Should have paid the man.

So youre saying that the reason for the closing was Samuels Restaurants own fault and not the economy?

Sammy's employees had been with him for years and pretty much ran the place. He was mainly a figurehead. I can tell you from first hand experience that when someone runs a family type business and dies people assume the business closes. Even though a family member has been working in the business and running it to a certain degree. People tell me all the time they thought we would be closed since my dad died. Hell, my dad ate at Sammy's since it was in Mall City, and Sammy stopped coming around after he died. People do strange things.

That wasn't it. I'm not one of the ones that needed to be tracked down.

I used to run it for him when he'd go to Vegas.

Rag, do you think this will be a trend even with the Bigger Restaurants that have opened new loactions over the last few years...IE the Walk Ons/Sammys?

Or do you think it is effecting the smaller time types only?

the smaller types will get hit hard first, obviously ... a place like sammy's should be fine .. they have been smart in their expansions and walk on's just has too much money left in daddy's pockets right now ... if happy's on coursey is successful, i think a lot of that biz could spill over to walk-on's too ... i think happy's was a good move over here for them ...

I think it was just the family didn't want to run it. I'm sure someone else could do it. His place had a loyal breakfast and lunch clientele and he opened for evening meetings as I've been to a couple there. Not the ecomony in my opinion.

i keep my silly stuff on the o-t mostly...but that doesn't keep me from saying something totally stupid while trying to be serious on the other boards. i blame my parents for that genetic problem & my banjo boy looks. brothers should never marry sisters

My wife works pretty close to the restaurant and they used to frequent it. She knew the daughter and says that she didn't want the hassle of running it, so they closed it. Not financial reasons.

I would imagine someone else will reopen it or open as something else. It was a steady place and really a good location for breakfast and lunch. We need more breakfast places.
