Saltgrass like most other chain steakhouses sucks arse. The most money you can ever save is to learn how to cook a steak and run your own smoker. Steak and BBQ are way the hell over priced when you eat out.

I agree that steak houses are too expensive for something done easily at home for much less. But I also agree that Saltgrass will probably be popular because of the aforementioned demand of interest in cheaper steak. Despite my feeling steak is better done at home, tons of people seek it out that there are numerous steak houses in New Orleans. And expensive ones. I think five of top six most expensive from NOLA.com article this week are steakhouses? Saltgrass, Outback, ect won't be as good as Ruth's, Chophouse, Mr. John's, etc but blue collar people want steak too more often than only a super special occasion and they don't want to pay +$97 for a porterhouse for two.

It sounds like you understood the lure with this place.

The coyote blues in Lafayette has been going downhill as well. My buddy did the landscaping for the Lafayette saltgrass and will do the Baton Rouge one as well. He said the company was actually pretty good to work with.

Coyote Blues was acquired by the Moody Group. This coincided with the rapid descent in Lafayette and horrible qualities in Baton Rouge

It is a damn shame Coyote closed however, as it was hands down the best restaurant Baton Rouge had to offer.

I think "best restaurant in BR" is a bit strong, but in a town where it seems like every other new restaurant is a Mexican joint, at least Coyote Blues differentiated itself with some of it's menu options.

Maybe I'm wrong, but you would think that particular location would do well. It's near several hotels (just up the road off of College) and a nice part of town (Southdowns). However, this marks two restaurants that haven't made it there (Lone Star and Coyote Blues). Admittedly, I've never eaten at a Saltgrass, but is there any reason to think it will make it there when a similar style restaurant, Lone Star, couldn't?

I was somewhat excite after the first time I went there but I went there a few years ago and it was straight crap.

El teimpo needs to expand to Baton Rouge. There isn't a single good restaurant with a good tortilla in Baton Rouge (outside a few hole in the walls)

Salt grass looks to be on par or slightly better than Texas Roadhouse. Would that be accurate?

I think it is a terrible location myself. It is a very busy street and you can't make a left hand turn into the parking lot.

Didn't Lone Star shut down because of a fire? Like most of the building burned down? Although, I always heard the food there was crap.

Tend to agree. It's a pain in the arse to get to during high traffic hours and if you are coming from south to north.

It's a sucker real estate spot

I think Saltgrass may outperform Lone Star just by being a up and coming chain instead of a somewhat outdated chain. That may be able to pull in some of the random traffic along I-10 throughout the week.

There's a decent chunk of low/mid range weekday steak demand that comes from truck drivers though, and those drivers will still end up at Texas Roadhouse - there's just no way to deal with an 18-wheeler in that parking lot or anywhere close.

I stand corrected on the Saltgrass/Joe's Crab Shack connection, gentlemen.

I was made privy to the prior connection because my younger brothers worked at Joe's. The one who worked at the Joe's on the boardwalk in Shreveport took us to eat at the Saltgrass on the boardwalk. Many of the same kitchen protocols in place between the two establishments. Both garbage.

Say what you want, but regardless of the current ownership situation, it's still "Joe's Steak House" ... trying to distinguish the two is like saying Red Lobster is sh!t, but Olive Garden is decent Italian.

You can keep them both, regardless of ownership.

Based on my experiences with both, I'd say TX Roadhouse is on par with Chili's/Outback, and Saltgrass is a bridge between those two and a Ruth Chris/Mortons.

Isn't there a light there protecting the left turn into the lot? I never pass that light from the other direction, so it well may just be a regular old traffic light with no protected left.

Look, that place has great visibility from I-10 and it's right off of an interstate exit. They're going to demand a fortune in because of that. Yes, I wish a Korean place, a Baton Rouge location for Pamplona or a resurrected Silver Moon Cafe would go in there. But you gotta be realistic.
