They are nixing the WHD locating and Root Squared and moving Root into the 2nd floor of Square Root. They also are laying off Square Root's pastry chef.

Guessing that they aren't doing well?

I'd imagine they are saving a fortune on rent.

They are wisely utilizing the space and both restaurants much like Chef Kelly English's Restaurants Iris and Second Line in Memphis. Two restaurants...one spot.

Square Root always struck me as a very questionable business plan for New Orleans.

Have always enjoyed root, but they didnt have the chicken wings last time I went.

In my drunken haze I was upset and just kept ordering them to the distain of our waiter and the rest of my table.

I think this move was necessary. I think the upscale bar concept they had for above square root kind of flopped. Beautiful space and great drinks/food, but never caught on. Paying rent on a restaurant downtown and having an empty space losing money uptown doesn't work.

I'm surprised it took this long. I like Root, but it seems like a concept for a much bigger city than NO.

It was always easy to get a table at Root as well.

Good luck with the new move.

I'm curious how much this has to do with Square Root's struggles. I do know that Root's neighborhood was constantly under construction. I wouldn't be surprised if they honestly wanted out of that lease.

I recently had dinner at the 2nd floor of Square Root and it was severely underwhelming. Food and service.

It amazes me how many people here have not tried Square Root. It's one of the most unique dining experiences that you've never tried.
