Probably 55 all the way.

I never make enough stops or stop for long enough to have a sit down lunch or breakfast.

But if you need STL recs I'm happy to provide some.

Just stop in Memphis and get some good BBQ then don't stop until you get to STL.

growing up we would drive to Shreveport to visit Grandma from STL. We would stop at Burges smoked Hams. Little hole in the wall joint, not sure if its on your route. But we liked it growing up.

ETA: its in Arkansas, I think its in Lewisville.

55 is pretty damn boring, you have Jackson and Memphis

Give me boring all day over the mess that is I-10 from Florida to San Antonio. If it were me, I would stop at White Castle somewhere in Southern Missouri I think right off of 55.

55 between NOLA and STL is way better than 55 between STL and Chicago. Every few hours you have a big city, there are good exits in Mississippi and southern Missouri for truck stops and such.

There is one right off the interstate at one of the Cape Girardeau exits. It's my usual breakfast stop on the drive down.

That's it. Couldn't remember the town or exit, but now where it is. When I drive to northern Iowa I stop here. It is 1,000 miles from dad's driveway to my driveway in BR. I did it one time where I made it to that exit without stopping from Iowa, went to the bathroom, got gas, gatorades and snacks, and white castle. Then made it the rest of the way to BR and my driveway was my next stop. So drove north of 1,000 miles with one stop in 14 hours.

Yea, 55 the whole way

I ate at Burge's every summer as a kid and it's one of my favorite places to eat; not on current route though.

Guess I need rec's for lunch in Memphis and dinner in STL then, please.

There's a nice town just north of Jackson called Madison. There's a Panera, Dickeys BBQ and few others.

Do you know what part of town you'll be in in STL? Or do you have a part of town you want to see or food/drink preferences?

Schindler's Tavern, 1029 State Highway A, Benton, Missouri

Home of the famous bologna burger. It's about 10 minutes off of I55 between Sikeston & Cape.

Or The Riverhouse closer to Cape Girardeau and on the banks of the Mississippi --

I'd hit either Gus's chicken or central bbq. Both are downtown and not really out of your way if you're coming through town on I55. Both are relatively fast too.

Gus's in Memphis is an obvious one

Other than that, Lambert's in Sikeston

Actually, going all the way up 61 through the Delta has better food options

Schindlers Tavern has the best burger that I've ever eaten. Bologna burger. Big patty and a slice of thick cut grilled bologna. My mouth is watering now. It's also the oldest tavern in Missouri, I think.

I've always had good luck with restaurants in Blytheville and usually spend the night there at the Hampton Inn when I drive to Chicago. There are several decent non-chain restaurants near the hotel. I used to stop in Memphis but it's become such a shithole that I just lock my doors and keep on going.
