Catching it for the first time since Christopher Kimball left, it's not the same...

It's not the same but it's still entertaining and informative IMO. The gadgets, tastings, and recipes will continue as before. I'll still enjoy it despite his unfortunate departure.

I think his grumpy personality kept it from feeling like an infomercial

Haven't seen the new season but I get his Milk Street stuff. That show should be on soon.

Gadgets are great. New host was better as a tester. I don't necessarily like the young tester they added. I just think it was better with CK.

I've received at least two of his magazines. Hope his show is better. I didn't care for the magazines.

I think the 2 women(Bridgette & Julia) do an excellent job, don't miss Chris at all.

People bitched about Chris on the show, but I thought he was good. The "new" hosts, who've been on there for years, are different, but I figure I'll get used to them.

It's odd when Bridgette does a perky intro. CK would not be smiling and shite like that.

The ATK podcast is where he is most missed. Bridgette was great as his sidekick on there, but she is not as successful as the lead. Chris is doing a Milk Street podcast with Sara Moulton as sidekick, and it is the better of the two shows.

You can't really point to anything specific they do wrong, but the chemistry is just different. I think the show misses CK big time.

Chris aggravated me and his aversion to spice was as annoying as Guy's aversion to all things egg. His tasting spots were also way too repetitive and I think someone new doing that could really be great. I haven't seen a show without him but I don't think it will bother me at all.

I caught the replay of the first show with these two last night. The cast iron steak looked delicious. However, the Bridgette and Julia part of the deal was rehearsed, contrived and very uncomfortable. It was like they'd memorized every word they were saying. They just weren't natural. Julia was better than Bridgette, though, later in the show with the spatchcock chicken.

It was the first show, so I'm hoping they got more comfortable and natural as they filmed more episodes. They also stand so close to each other like too much in each other's space. I kept noticing that for some reason and feeling like one of them needed to take a step back. It looked awkward and all of it was distracting.

They need some contrast. They really have a similar look and similar personalities. Maybe they ought to wear different colored clothes. What Kimbal added was a bit of conflict. His comments tended to challenge the others and that made it more interesting.

They didn't play off each other well at all. It was bizarre in many ways. As I said it just wasn't a natural back and forth. It was cheesy and almost like they were reading lines.

Yes, there could have been just one person up there and it might have come off better.

It did have that feel. There were also some different camera angles and things that made me think there was a new director for the show. I don't know for sure, but it appears they have someone new behind the camera that may give it that different vibe.
