Votes were only counted if the beer/brewery was specifically mentioned in the appropriate thread, so if someone mentioned The Bruery as overrated in the Underrated thread then the vote did not count. I did not combine votes if a specific beer and brewery were mentioned (3 Floyds and 3 Floyds Dark Lord), as some posters might find one particular beer to be overrated and others may find the entire lineup to be overrated. Also I did not verify the existence of every beer/brewery. Sorry for the post length, but I copied and pasted from Excel. Have at it.

The funny part are the ones that have multiple votes in both lists.

So is Oskar Blues overrated or underrated? Or perhaps appropriately rated since they offset?

I guess that question can be debated and answered by the posters?

Disagree?

Most of the Deschutes votes were for Abyss being overrated and not the brewery itself.

I think Bells is overrated. Oskar Blues too.

Overrated does not mean "not good." Something can be excellent and still overrated.

Not only that, it's subjective and based upon expectations.

I can also see how a place/food/drink or whatever can be overrated to some and underrated for others.

To me the difference between The Bruery and Deschutes/Bells/OskarBlues is that The Bruery makes some AWFUL beers, has issues with contamination of clean beer, and is often overpriced.

Deschutes/Bells/OskarBlues have none of these problems. If you look at those three, most of their year round line up isn't very exciting. Even some of their seasonals that were once considered outstanding now look a little dated compared to current trends, but all of the beers I've had from these breweries were well crafted and enjoyable.

I've tutu'd multiple beers from The Bruery, never one from the other three.

I hear you.

Like I said, I like Bells and Oskar Blues (quite a lot actually).

They've been available for so long here, so I guess that taints my view a bit. I've had them a lot, so I am not as impressed as I once was I suppose.

I about wet myself when Dale's came out here. And in cans for a great beer for the pool!

I think if you get a vote in both underrated and overrated, it should remove you from both list....But the votes would have to cancel each other out.

Man, I love The Bruery. I buy their stuff all the time.

Possibly related: I am poor now.

I think this happens a lot with the craft beer crowd. We tell distributors and store owners "I wish we had 'x' brewery, I'd buy it all the time.", but about 3 months after they get here most of us are only buying the special releases and the rest become shelf turds.

I was thrilled to see Oskar Blues here, and I bought it quite often at first. But now the same issue of freshness has arisen. Old dates, no purchase. I'll sure as hell buy Ten FIDY whenever I see it, though.

One of the best things about new stuff in the market means fresh beer.

The Bruery has some clunkers, but they do have a lot of seasonal and one-offs that keep things fresh and new. Oskar Blues/Bells/Deschutes don't have that so much, and we tend to tire of them. Not saying they don't have seasonals, but even their seasonal are the same, year after year.

I will qualify this by saying that Deschutes does some cool stuff at their brewpub that is not distributed. I guess Bells and OB could be doing the same.

Agreed. But lately I find myself revisiting some of these, and keeping them in my fridge more often. There are some really solid beers that we mavens pass up because we're focused on finding the next big thing.

My last four beer purchases have been Lagunitas' session IPA, Pinner Throwback IPA, Dale's Pale Ale, and NOLA ICS.

Never a bad thing to have some regular drinkers around.

cant agree more, i was going through a phase of whale hunting day in a out and forgot that many great beers i had tasted and enjoyed before were right in front of me on the shelf. That hunter/gatherer is tough to get out of though, i guess thats just part of looking for that perfect beer for whatever mood you are in

8YS said it best, I think, when he said he had gotten tired of paying $14 for a 4 pack of the latest and greatest thing every time it came out. I think we gravitate towards chasing after beers because that's a big part of why we got into craft beer in the first place -- trying new things. If you're only buying the same ol' daily drinkers, you're doing something that is counterintuitive. But I think he's on to something in that once you find something that hits the sweet spot with flavor and price, it's foolish to pass it up. For sure sample new things, but don't overlook a good thing.
