You can ABSOLUTELY "reuse" the unused portion of your charcoal a 2nd (or 3rd, etc) time. Why? Because some of your charcoal is unused! If you are good about closing all vents once you finish cooking, then you can salvage the charcoal that was not burned in the first cooking. Then, as someone said, load it all in the charcoal chimney, shake out the ash that has formed on the outside of the coals, and you are set to go. You may need to add some more unused coals, depending on how much is left, but you can often get a few meals out of a large pile of charcoal.

I can't believe there are "men" in this thread that don't know you can "reuse" charcoal.

"Reuse" is in quotes because you aren't really "reusing" anything.

I think he replied to the wrong person and was actually talking about all of the people at the beginning of the thread that were making fun of the question.

Got it... I was confused about the smart arse replies also. I think some grills are made differently. Either that or if my dad didn't show me how/what to do when I was a kid I wouldn't know any better and just let it all burn up.

I've got a weber kettle. I just close the lid and all the vents and always have some unburned charcoal leftover.

I use both lump and the cheap briquette stuff. The lump stuff will hold out better, but even the briquette stuff has some leftover usually. I just sweep out the ashes from last time and use whatever remains.

If you have a BGE, why are you worried about reusing charcoal? Just go buy a bag. It's $10.

As for me (no BGE) it's not so much a matter of "worrying" as in an expense sort of way, as it is that I find it easier to just reuse whatever is left-over (I always have to add at least 1/2-2/3 new to the chimney starter, than to throw it away.

Tell the wife or girlfriend "Clean this shite up, bitch."
She won't. But after she slaps you, you'll get an adrenaline rush and it makes the job easier for you.
