Martini, here's a practically fat free recipe for french fries. Take a potato and cut it as you usually do for fries. Line a baking pan with foil. Spray foil with Pam or a cheap non stick spray. I use the cheap product. Place your potatos on foil in a single layer and spray potatos with the non stick spray. Bake at 400 degrees for forty-five minutes or however brown you like your fries. Remove from oven, salt, and enjoy.

I need to stay away from that thread. They get their feelings hurt in a hurry.

Prior to January I had a belly and my weight always varied between 212 to 220 lbs. Been like that for several years. Then I had a heart attack and completely changed the way I ate.

No more fried foods. No McDonalds. No eggs and bacon. No mynez. No ice cream. No cheese, and no baked goods like cookies and cake. In other words, I pretty much completely cut out fat. No counting carbs or any of that bullshite, just ate low fat stuff and still did not trust labels on anything that said "lowfat."

I cook all kinds of stuff and use olive oil. Ate so much chicken and fruits it was sickening. Right now, I weigh 180, and my waist went back down to 36, but could probably wear some 34s. It's all in what you eat.

I quit being so ascetic about eating...I still eat a shitload of whole grain cereal, some fruits, but am loosening up on the fats a little bit (got to have fricking bacon at least once or twice a week!). I still cook, but not as much as I'd like to. The doctor told me he would rather me eat ice cream than still smoke, but smoking is one bitch of a vice to quit.

Hmm...I lost track of what I was trying to say here, didn't mean to turn it into a testimonial...just watch the damn fats and cut out the fried foods, I guess...

I smoked for thirty two years. I decided one day to quit. I went to the guy in Gonzales who later went to jail and had the laser on my pressure points. I dropped my last Marlboro on his driveway when I walked in and fifteen minutes and three hundred dollars later I walked out and have never even had the urge from that moment on. That guy is gone but surely there are others. I have twelve friends who did it and it worked on eleven of us. Try it. Best three hundred I ever spent.

Go to Blue Bell Light if you want ice cream.

Weird that you guys bring up smoking. I've smoked for about 10-12 years (who knows when it actually started?!). But, I'm 40 and have tried a few times. Tried the chantix (never do this) and have tried several other times with gum, patches etc. Last Monday when I had my "moment" and said "frick this, I'm tired of this" I quit smoking, drinking and eating bad. That's when I luckily stumbled into the other original thread and posted and it motivated me. Sad to say, I have slipped on the smoking. I bought a pack Friday and have smoke like usual all weekend. I blame that on Les Miles lol.

Seriously though, I have been very good on the cals and the exercise and have dropped some needed lbs over the last almost-week and am loving it. I am very much looking forward to reaching my goal of 230 at Thanksgiving. I know I will do it. I know myself and yes, I will slip on a gameday or two with the drinking...I know this. But I will not go back to what I was doing.

And I have all of you guys to thank for the continuing support. If you are just lurking and feel the same way and think your opinion/story doesn't amount to a hill of beans, you are wrong. Post it and join in the discussion. Because every time I read about someone doing the same thing and feeling the same way helps me. I'm sure it could help you too.

Started 244 last Tuesday.

237 this morning.

But . . . today was a cheat day or a bigger day or something. I don't know. Anyway, I'm sure I'll have water retention tomorrow morning when I weigh in. So, I'll start back with the 1500 calories/day tomorrow.

Just got back from doing a mile. Feel great. Still at 255 even after my cheat day yesterday. Not too bad I guess. Didn't lose any weight, but didn't gain any either.

Back to the 1500 calorie grind!

ETA: Still sticking to between 1200-1600 cals a day and drinking plenty of ice water. Just started adding exercise into the mix yesterday.

why is everyone so afraid of fat???? fat isn't what's making you fat.

4. Eat fat.

The fats that you should be eating should come from nuts, seeds, oils, and fish. Fat in your food doesn’t necessarily translate to fat on your body. Fats can help you feel fuller longer, and there are many health benefits that come from eating it. Omega-3’s specifically have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and some types of cancer. They can even help treat ADHD, depression, and immune system dysfunction

Because doctors have been telling people for over 30 years that it kills you.

It has only been recently that some people have changed their tune on fat.

Hell, most doctors still think Atkins is nothing but a death wish, even as people all around drop 50+ pounds using the diet plan.

Because they are ignorant. People think 'fat' and think bad fats, not that fat is essential to good health and comes in many forms.

morning weight: 146
breakfast: 1 cup of coffee, tblspn creamer, 1 packet of splenda: 15 calories?

lunch: small greek salad w/ onions, feta, vinegar & oil. 100 cal? greek meatballs & tziki sauce -probably 300 cal. unsweet tea.

It's really hard to count calories when you don't cook and 90% of your meals come from nonchain restaurants that don't have websites with nutritional value on them.

i dont want to beat a dead horse, but you will really sabotage your weight-loss attempt by eating out anywhere. if you're not making the food yourself, you're setting yourself up for hundreds of additional calories you don't expect. even with 'nutritional guides' posted, that number can be way off.

really the only right way to do this is buy natural foods (dairy, meats, fruits, veggies) and prepare them yourself so you know if you're drowning it in Parkay or adding some 'flavoring' to it that just added 200 more calories.

calories add up fast in hidden ingredients and quite honestly, the food isn't that much better. stick with simple seasonings while you're trying to lose weight and simple foods.

I think this would be a bit over 400 calories, more like 600 IMO

The salad alone is probably way off. The greens in the salad probably have minimal calories but just one tablespoon of olive oil is 120 calories. Most restaurants put way more dressing than 1 tablespoon.

So the oil alone is probably at least 120. The feta cheese is about 70 cals per ounce which isn't very much. So the salad was probably at least 200 cals.

The meatball are hard to tell but they too probably were cooked with some oil and bread crumbs and probably were more than 300 calories although that may be close depending on the size.

As Cad said, to really hit this diet hard, you need to avoid going out and if you do, you need to pick places in advance that have the nutritional values on the net.

Nothing is more frustrating than thinking you are working hard, but not losing weight because of hidden calories in restaurant food.
