go to traditional Mexican places on Williams, they don't even treat today like it's anything special. I remember one telling me this would be the equivalent of Europeans drinking Whiskey and eating burgers at McDonalds to celebrate the first Barbary War.

You're entitled to your opinion.
You'd be wrong where I live though.

I've never understood why Americans celebrate this date. It's commemorates Mexico winning a battle in Mexico. Can someone enlighten me? Just an excuse to drink tequila and eat Mexican food?

Well duh!
Not to mention that 5 out of 7 years it's an excuse to do so on a work night.

I don't understand needing an excuse. I guess for those who look for drink specials, it's a big night.

Getting hammered on tequila on a week night on a "holiday" is socially acceptable. Otherwise, not so much.
That's my only guess.
I'm going home to a nice Terrapin Special Edition Coffee Stout myself.

It's just in good fun. You'd probably run into some issues if you got too drunk at a family-friendly Mexican restaurant any other day of the year. On this day, people don't bring their kids and the restaurant caters to the drunks.

I'll be at Sombreros after the conclusion of the 6 p.m. minor league game. WooHoo!

It was invented by Hallmark to sell cards, man!
ETA: Wife is making her Chicken Enchilada Casserole. I'm making homemade guac and picking up margaritas from the drive-thru daiquiri shop. That's how we're getting down.

the collection of trash hanging out in the parking lot of casa maria in gonzales was incredible. who wants to walk through a crowd of drunks puffing on cigarettes just to get to the entrance of a restaurant?
