I'll give you the benefit of the doubt Politiceaux...I can appreciate someone who goes to a restaurant and incorporates service, atmosphere, etc along with the actual dish as well when evaluating. I do the same. But I've gone two times (small data set), and never had any problem with service or the kitchen. It's been seamless for me.

Well considering the fact that almost every Friday or Saturday night of the first twenty plus years of my life were spent in the original Village restaurant or Jack Sabins which was owned by Miss Fannies son Joe I find the Little Village an insult to what was a wonderful restaurant. I've been four times, twice downtown, twice Airline and all four were overpriced, obnoxious, bad food experiences. I figure I've given them a fair shot but if you live on the reputation of "good bread" it's not a good sign. I'm done and have been for awhile.

Good info Martini. Sounds like you have a history with them. Again, this is all subjective here and highly dependent on individual experiences, but the two times I've been the downtown one, I've had nothing but raving, positive times. My mom and dad who are from North LA call me all the time asking if when they come back down if we can all go back to LV.

FWIW, I got the Seafood pasta both times as well...but the spicy version. Diavlo or something like that. I loved it.

And so what? The bread is good. Is this considered a cheap gimmick or something?

Nothing cheap about it. That's part of my point. For that kind of money I expect better. And I don't ever consider price a deal killer but I'm like most people that say was that really worth it? I can get better for that same amount elsewhere and even if I cheapen it as LaLady says I can do better at say Diguilios for that price.

Well take mom and dad back if they like it. Apparently people do since they have two locations and seem to stay busy. It's just not to my liking and I can assure you Miss Fannie would be rolling in here grave if she could see this.

I dine out at Italian places to feed my lasagna craving, and the lasagna at Diguilios is too "dry cheesy".. not enough sauce. :/

FWIW, I don't doubt that people have had unpleasant experiences at LV..and I can see why so. Not everyone goes for the $15 lasagna plate But it's what I go for and the reason I always have a pleasant experience.

I was forced to branch out last time with a threat of never returning if I don't, and I got the Shrimp and Lobster Cream Penne.. and loved it. Maybe I just happen to order all the right things for myself?

I don't get the bread anymore .. not because it's too expensive or not good to me, but because I try to avoid bread at most restaurants as it fills me up and causes me not to enjoy my entree.

How do you feel about Pinettas lasagna? It is less than 15 bucks and the sauce is much better than LV. (It is also not dry cheesy)

I had their spaghetti and wanted to vomit.. but maybe the lasagna is better? I won't be back to try. What a gross looking place. The spaghetti was a watery tomato sauce, rather than a thick, deep red one.

And sometimes rude as hell when you call in a to-go order for lunch.

I'll share two stories, both deal with the fat bitch of a manager at the downtown location.

1. One of my former co-workers was celebrating her last day at LV with the women at the office. I called over and tried to have desserts sent to their table. The lady refused to take my CC over the phone. I told her the story and still wouldn't even attempt to accommodate me. I described the women at the table, etc to no avail.

2. I was sitting at the bar for dinner and the two male bartenders told me what a bitch she was. They said she would refuse service to black couples who walked in without reservations. I witnessed her acting put out by walk-up customers, while the restaurant was mostly empty.

That lady is the Ignatius J. Reilly of the Little Village.

I dropped by the Little Village on 3rd St downtown Baton Rouge recently to do some work in the kitchen and couldn't believe the filthy state the kitchen was in.

Sure the dining area is nice and neat but that kitchen should be shut down by the board of health.

It's easily the nastiest kitchen I've ever been in. They need to load a pressure washer with chlorox and scalding hot water and pressure spray everything in that kitchen.

DISGUSTING.

You seem to put a lot of people down but rarely have much insight. Enlighten us as to why a true Southerner doesn't have a clue about Italian, being you are from that Yankee bastion of Jackson, Mississippi.

Dude, Little Village isn't that good. One need not be an expert in fine Italian dining to know as much.

I'm not from Mississippi. I work here. My grandparents came through Ellis Island from Catania
