Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, the popular Nashville-based hot chicken restaurant chain, is looking to open in Texas, as pointed out by an Eater tipster. Specifically, the company is eyeing potential locations in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
A rep for the chain confirmed these expansion plans, noting that Hattie B’s formed a specific Texas LLC (Hattie B’s of Texas, LLC) in August in Dallas. There is no set timeline for these openings as of yet.
The restaurant chain is known for its fiery, crispy hot chicken, as well as chicken tender and chicken wing platters and a hot chicken sandwich. Spice levels range from the Southern (no spice) to the Shut the Cluck Up (the spiciest). Then there are Southern sides (baked beans, black-eyed pea salads, etc.), desserts (cobbler, banana pudding), drinks, and beer.
This Texas expansion has been in the works for a while. Director of culinary operations Brian Morris first brought it up to the Los Angeles Times in 2018, and co-owner Nick Bishop Jr. mentioned it to the Nashville Business Journal this past May.
Bishop Jr. and his father Nick Bishop, Sr. opened the business in Nashville in 2012, and grew with locations throughout the Tennessee City and Memphis, as well as ones in Birmingham, Atlanta and Las Vegas. While the restaurants’ dining rooms have remained closed for dine-in service during the pandemic, the patios are open for self-service dining. The kitchen is offering takeout service as well, plus Uber Eats deliveries.

I think Mico's Hot Chicken in Houston might be better than Hattie B's

What part of town is Micos?

Nashville hot chicken is gross. Yep I said it.

I've only had Hattie B's and I think it's pretty overrated. Their regular fried chicken is pretty good without that spicy blend spread on it. Way too much cayenne in that stuff.

Damn Texas, you so lucky.
I hope the chain doesn't get suckier as it branches out.

Havent been but it looks good though might be tough to compare. Micos only has tenders and a sandwich. Looks like Hatties has the full ride with bone in chicken and large menu with lots of sides. Looks like similar spices but different experiences.

The chicken is juicy like popeyes. The heat is just right. The sides were all awesome. I had a bourbon icee type of drink that was a good compliment. I will seek out Hattie B’s next time im in Nashville or maybe Texas now.

the "shut the cluck up" is next-level hot. never again.

Part of the appeal of hot chicken is that it's always a crap-shoot on what level of spice you're going to get at the old-school joints. You can order medium, but you might get mild or you might get surface of the sun. Hattie-B's makes good hot chicken, but it's too consistent and there's no fun in that. I want my hot chicken to come with a chance of ruining my day, night, and next day. A sort of Russian Roulette with slightly less serious consequences.

I prefer Prince's personally.

All of these newcomers looking to capitalize on the hot chicken fad are weak. Prince’s is the GOAT. If you don’t like Nashville hot then Gus’ out of West TN is legit. This may be sacrilegious but I think Publix fried chicken is pretty damn good.

There’s like 10 chicken restaurants on the same road in Austin within about 5 miles of each other
I think atleast 4 of them are Nashville hot type places (Tumble 22 was frickin great, sides were meh but the chicken sandwich was killer)
Add another to the list I guess
Here’s a list of all the chicken restaurants on Burnet road out here
And there’s probably more than that

We had one open in ATL last year. fricking delicious. The hottest (shut the cluck up) is edible but it'll put a hurting on you...we picked up some chicken tenders in STCU just to try. My meal was "damn hot" and it was very spicy but not so much that I couldn't enjoy my meal (despite sweating and sniffling).
