I'm on amazon right now and it seems like there are some decent heat resistant gloves that protect to over 600F. My old oven mitts are failing and I want some gloves with some grip, high heat resistance, and practicality so that my fingers are flexible. I don't need an extended length for a grill pit although I may use them to dump my chimney and lift the lid of my Weber, mostly using the gloves for holding hot items out of the oven.

Anyone have any favorites or pros / cons to watch out for?

I have a pair of leather welding gloves near my grill, and a pair in the kitchen. They suit my needs.

They're inexpensive also.

I like the ones with the long gauntlets.

Good call. I may stop by the hardware store tomorrow.

The welder's gloves would work for the heat, but I'm looking for a non-slip surface.

I've never owned a pair of heat resistance gloves. Am I to assume that my hands won't feel any heat while holding something out of the oven with 660F heat resistance gloves?

Try them and see what you think. The grip area is a soft suede until it gets wet or burned. My gloves still look new after many years. The heat resistance is relative to the time of exposure. You aren't going to hold a hot pan of cornbread for 5 minutes without discomfort.

I've been using a pair of the 'Ove Glove that you would see on TV. Heat resistant, flexible and non slip. Can grab a pot off the stove or a pan out of the oven with ease. The only problem is you can't use them wet, they will steam and that is really hot.
A good thing is that they are machine washable. I've been having mine for years. The best thing Is the non slip grip.

Another vote for leather welding gloves.

However, I recently saw the end of an ad for some hi-temp silicone gloves. I didn't catch the brand though. I'd be willing to give those a shot for inside work.

I have been thinking about this for a bit. What I would like a glove for is flipping stuff on the pit. Stuff like ov-gloves and leather gloves the grease penetrates them and they dont work long.
When cooking for a church or something when ya have 100 chicken halfs to flip a good glove would be great.

I just use the cheapo palm vinyl coated gloves from Home Depot. They work great. The vinyl beaks down after a couple of months of use....but they are cheap.

ETA: and something thats 600 degrees you would only be able to hold for 30 seconds or so before you felt it.

I have the Grill Beast BBQ Grilling Cooking Gloves and they're nice. You just can't use them when they're wet.

Welder's gloves are leather, so they're not really slick. Way more grip than cloth oven mitts.

I'm another vote for welder's gloves. Another nice thing about welder's gloves is that they come in big sizes for big hands. Much easier than trying to find a pair of kitchen gloves that will fit if you have bear paws like I do.

If you are talking about gloves specifically designed for handling food, I've recently started using the cotton liner and glove method like what Malcolm Reed from Killer Hogs uses here. I like it because your hands are protected, yet the gloves are flexible enough to get a good grip on food. I bought the cotton liners and gloves at Harbor Freight.

Malcolm Reed's glove method

Before the gloves above, I was using something close to these. Still great gloves, just harder to grip food with.

Another set of gloves
