What are you looking for? Price range? Eating solo, business, or family?
The better restaurants are a quick 10 minute drive from downtown, but if you just want to walk somewhere from your hotel, I'd suggest the following:
Upscale
Morton's
Ray's
Polaris/Sun Dial - Overpriced food but worth going for a cocktail to take in the view
Affordable
Max Lager's - brewpub
Alma Cocina - Quality Mexican
Meehan's - Irish pub with good food

Had a good dinner at Ray's last year. Enjoyed the live music, too.

Looking for something a little bit toward Family, wife has physician conference, we are all going then on to Bama to visit Family. I had picked Fox Bros but she was not sure she wanted BBQ.

Well in that case Hooter's is right around the corner
Kidding of course, but will you have kids too or just you and wifey?

ah kid in tow changes things.
Alma is definitely still good but it's got a kind of modern/stylish vibe to it. A 5 year old would be fine though.
Skip Meehan's as it's more of a pub environment. Max Lager's is basic American food and will please everyone.
Big Kahuna is another option. Fun tropical theme for the kiddo and good enough food (think cali style tacos, seafood, fajitas, salads...).
Again, there are plenty of better options if you're willing to catch an uber/taxi, but the places above will be fine for a casual family dinner and just a block or two away from your hotel.

Well, we will have a car so traveling a bit not a problem. I haven't been in ATl since about 2000. However walking distance is always good. The Miso Izakaya looks interesting wife loves sushi.

Have heard it's great. Pacific Rim is right by your hotel and has good sushi too.
If you're willing to drive 10 minutes, you could check out Krog Street Market or Ponce City Market. Both are cool spots with full service restaurants and upscale dining halls. Parking isn't great at either place (pay or valet) but worth walking around as a visitor to the city.

Twin Smoker's (BBQ)
Max's (pizza)
both on Marietta not far from your hotel.
