Nope. The northern la dudes seem to love it, but locals opinions on their hometown breweries seem to get clouded, myself included. I look forward to trying it one day.

I'm fine with just a bold imperial stout. Not that I would complain if he chose coffee, but going to Huna level can be over the top a lot of times.

Not sure what you mean. Huna level would be awesome. Is anyone else in LA brewing an imperial stout? Throw in coffee, cocoa nibs, chiles, etc. and it's all the better.

I joke about South Coast, but I put it well above Abita. Then again, it may be because it has a better hop profile, not sure if that makes it a good amber though.

Prolly because south coast is an ale and thus carries more fruitiness and other associated flavors, but it certainly is hoppier. Abita "Amber" is just a pedestrian take on the Vienna lager.

The BA grand reserve is happening. Got a chance to talk to him at the beer thing in champions square Saturday. He's good friends with a friend of mine, so I got a chance to sit down with him for a while away from the tent. I jokingly asked him if they were going to be pappy barrels, but he said it was going to jack Daniels, makers, or something along those lines. I asked him about a stout as well, but I don't remember his answer. This was around 5, so I had already been playing hour of power for 3 hrs. From what I remember, I don't think he's much of a stout person. He did mention how great he thinks heady is, which I found strange because I thought someone here said he wasn't impressed. He told me how ghost was a shot at that, and how they're going to continue to tweak that recipe. Also mentioned it will be 4packs, but I think that's been said. Talked about really liking cantillon, and possibly trying to work on a sour. Think that's far away though.

Tried to name drop and gain some street cred with him. I told him that my BFF Internet friend bbrou33 is always in there and asked him what he thought about him. He said "who?" I said I don't know his real name because we're just Internet friends but its bbrou33. He said he didn't know who I was talking about because they're are a lot of people in there. Name dropping did not get me on the Parrish reserve society.

They should brew something original and not be copy cats.

Vienna lagers are relatively ho-hum to begin with when compared to other contemporary craft beers, but I wouldn't call Abita's interpretation pedestrian at all. It's not something I drink often, but it's a well made beer, imo.

Like what?

I'm not saying copy-cat Huna or any other beer directly. But I've had some great non-BA stouts from breweries that have used those ingredients or some combination of them and would to be able to get one locally.

I doubt people in Missouri care that Abraxas is sort of a rip-off of Huna.

Come on brah! I'll reveal my real name one day. He knows me by that. The girl that was working there probably knows me by bbrou though.
Did you get your ghost from R2R? That hipster probably drank them all.

If there was something as bold as Huna I wouldn't have a problem at all. The trend right now seems to be throw everything in the world in a beer. Guess we are bored and need something to catch our attention above just a really well done stout.

What about their interpretation is special? It's not like they threw in American hops or anything like that. I'm not saying it isn't well-made for style. I think SA boston lager is better.

This is a pretty good summary of Abita's beers in general.

I still have them. Unaware of how to get in touch with Ern to schedule a dropoff / pickup.

Also, there are still plenty of Ghosts to be found in Nola fwiw.
