I pay 3.50 an oyster here in Atlanta. Pretty much the only way NOLA>ATL

Place around the corner from me does 50 cent oysters 3-close on weekdays. It's awesome if you don't mind getting cultured on the walk there.

The oysters are so damn good right now

I have a fire pit, a grate on top, a piece of barn siding and a burlap sack ready at the farm.

Tomorrow I'll get a good fire going, put the grate and tin over it, dump a sack of oysters on tin and cover with wet burlap sack. Ten minutes I'm eating steamed/smoked oysters. Good stuff. Will do a sack Thanksgiving morning as well.

Ordered 2 small sacks for Friday in Mecca. They'll be $55 each, pretax, I think.

I picked up a $55 sack this past Friday. Price went up and the oyster count went down in Byron's sacks. But, they may have been the best damn sack of oysters I've ever gotten. Fat, clean and salty. I'll prolly get another this Friday they were so good...

This is what we get to deal with

Can't get Appalachicola's anywhere around Birmingham right now. The only oysters that are readily accessible are Blue Points for $85 a sack.

They are clean and decent sized but the flavor just isn't there.

I've got a boat sack ordered for the 26th from Reno's for $65. Then plan to break into 2 - 32lb sacks from Tony's on the 27th for around $100. Reno's is closed Christmas eve-New years. Love this time of year. Home chargrilled and RAW.

I know The Chimes, Drusilla Seafood, and Jones Creek Cafe have oyster specials, as well as others.

As far as sacks go, the sack I got from Capital City Crawfish for Thanksgiving waa great. Huge, salty oysters.

Can someone recommend a good oyster knife? Been wanting to try to shuck some oysters, never have done it even though I love me some oysters.

Its not. Watch a couple videos.

Couple tips.
if they are dirty...When you get them dump them on a concrete slab and rinse them really good. Try to get mist of the mud off of them. Sometimes they are dirty, sometimes they arent.

Always have a towel next to you, after you pop the oyster, whipe your knife before cutting the eye.

If not this one, get the dexter but get the new haven style. The last 1/4 inch of the knife is at 45° angle which helps with prying while twisting.
