they have had QC and consistency issues over the last 2-3 years with some if not all of their beers. i dont see how anyone can debate that.

FWIW, I haven't experienced those consistency issues in the last 8+ months. Ghost and envie has been great and very consistent in that time frame.

was a much larger batch, I would imagine money.

B also mentioned that the coffee grinds left a big mess, maybe the vanilla did too.

Gracias, both make sense

I actually decided last night to throw that statement out here as a joke/troll, but neglected to get back on TD after dinner.

Thanks for picking up the slack!

My main beef is that they didn't tweak OV to make it better. They tweaked OV to make it taste like Ghost.

Did Parish say they tweaked the OV with the purpose to make it taste like GitM?

I saw they said this with Envie, but didn't see that mentioned in respect to OV.

well then, i guess we should never talk of exploding envie or flat canebreak ever again. kinda like the Alton Sterling rap sheet, "what that, that's not important"

They said on FB before the release OV was going to be more "hazy and juicy"

which translates to... "we just took some malt out of the ghost grain bill and called it a day. enjoy your space beer"

Have you ever used vanilla in brewing a beer? Do you know just how many whole vanilla beans are required in a 30bbl batch, to go with the hours upon hours of splitting them, trying to separate the beer from the coffee grounds and vanilla, then cleaning all that stuff up? He said a lot of beer got left in the fermentor, simply because they had a lot of trouble separating the beer from the grounds.

The first batch of Reve was 5bbl. This one was 6 times as big. And upon talking to him, he's seriously considering adding vanilla back to the recipe. Those logistics need to be figured out. But this is why you brew batches like this and release them in your taproom. That's the whole point of a taproom. You get to experiment and see how things pan out. Sometimes, they don't pan out as well as others. And that's OK. Same can be said for Opus.

You realize these are two of the most common descriptors of NE style hoppy beers, right?

Tree House, who stinktoe threw out earlier in this mess, uses the term 'juice' or 'juicy' in the descriptions of at least 4 of their beers. That doesn't even count the beers that listed specific fruit aromas that are typically associated with 'juicy' IPAs.

Rookie mistake, he should have gone to the Bmoney special and used that Redstick Spice Co. puree.

You do realize that more goes into whether or not a beer is hazy than the grain bill, right? Ghost is significantly more orange in color than Opus as well.

I get your issue. Hell, I even agree to a point. I've had enough Opus from this batch now to base a decent opinion on it. I think I prefer the first batch, because the Simcoe notes were really pronounced. This batch seems more Mosaic forward (minus the green onion) to me.

We talked about it, for sure. I don't know whether or not he'll go that route, because what works or is feasible at the homebrew level, isn't necessarily so at the commercial level. But I would not be shocked if he went the whole bean and vanilla puree route in the future.

I have never brewed a beer before. I do not claim to know much more than basics of the brewing process. I'm sure it's 1000x harder than most people realize. That's why I try to fight the trolls in these threads.

I was just throwing my guess out there based on what you said earlier.

I didn't mean to call you out. I was just pointing out that this batch was 6 times as big as the first, meaning it was much more labor and resource intensive. Omitting the vanilla was a calculated gamble.

I stop buying envie when they had those problems and didn't go back until they improved it. Just haven't run into that issue again. When's the last time you ran into those issues?

No business is perfect and all are going to have hiccups. I work for one of the largest companies in the country and we still screw shite up from time to time.
