I don't understand why people get the surf and turf at Parkway. Their shrimp are so damn good and the roast beef is so meh. Just ruins a good shrimp po-boy IMHO.

I don't find parkway's roast beef to be that bad. Add a little seasoning/hot sauce and it's good for me. Every once in a while I enjoy a surf and turf also.

its for the gravy. i cant fit the whole poboy in my mouth when its fully dressed, so i end up pulling much of the roast beef off anyway

You can ask for just the gravy FWIW.

Been preaching gravy only for years. Don't forget to add Swiss and you got the dam best shrimp poboy. I've had I surf n turf and it was too much for me. At parkway I get a shrimp add Swiss with a side of gravy and fries.

Parkway and Guys, as stated, are both top notch. My favorite shrimp pbs in the city.

Johnny's for sure is the best in the FQ if that's where you want to be. Killer is good, but not traditional poboys and it's tiny tiny. It's a better spot for a loner to eat IMO.

I think Rivershack Tavern does a fantastic oyster poboy, and it's also a good place for a group. Just have to drive a little bit out there if you're staying downtown.

Mahoneys is bland and overpriced.

thanks for all the suggestions. I dont think guys or mahoney's is on the table because they want to go to the quarter. We ahve a few first timers.

I have already texted some girl friends on mine about killer poboys, so i think i will save that for a trip with less people and people who can get traditional spread any day of the week.

If we stop somewhere before hitting the quarter, we will do parkway tavern & if we go straight to quarter, it will more likely than not be johnny's

Any suggestions on what to order at Johnny's if thats where we end up?

Very good versions of both roast beef and shrimp po-boys. Like R2r said it is the best place in the FQ for a traditional po-boy. Enjoy !!!
