they do indeed take reservations.

I stand corrected. I'm not sure they always have, good to know. I usually go mid week to avoid any issues. Great spot.

Not so fast Ye Ole College Inn.

someone call to confirm. I'm 80% sure they don't take rezzies.

It's okay. I found it quite expensive, though, pretty much on par with any of the places listed in the OP, from which he was looking for something more "mid-range".

Commanders is the best value in the city. It is not expensive. You both can eat there and have a great meal for less than many many other places in the city. Id bet that yall both could eat there for $50 ..

It's definitely a better value than people think

If you mean 50 each and not 50 both together I agree with you

I really like Ye Olde College Inn. When's the last time you've been? Have you been since they completely redid it complete with tablecloths? It's nothing like it used to be. The food is good and consistent. The atmosphere is great. It's reasonably priced and they grow their own veggies in a garden next to the restaurant..which I gotta respect. Not sure why the hate...unless you haven't been since these changes took place. The reviews on Yelp speak for themselves.

Their shrimp and grits are very good. Nowhere near as good as Atchafalaya (which I think are the best in the city), but very good.

I certainly wasn't "hating", just stating my opinion of the last time I was there. Admittedly, over a year or 2 ago before the changes.

I just peeked at the menu, it certainly looks better then I remember. It just wasn't ever a place I enjoyed going. It's not particularly convenient(to me), I would have to pass several other restaurants I would prefer just to get there.

The Oyster App on the website appears to have a higher blue cheese to fried oyster ratio then I like. You can barely see the oysters, and the lettuce salad it sits on top of looks pedestrian.

While the place isn't expensive, I wouldn't consider that "Value".

I'd still give it a shot if I'm in the neighborhood.

It's not bad what the Blanchers did to revive it, but part of me actually misses Ye Olde Ye Olde College Inn -- the one that was like eating in a nursing home dining room.
