NFL Bans 'Slap Ya Mama' commercials.

Not sure this belongs in F&D or More Sports, but in it's campaign against domestic violence, the NFL has banned 'Slap Ya Momma' red zone commercials. I have always thought the name of this product was in questionable taste (I don't buy it), but I guess since they gave Ray Rice a minimal penalty for actual violence, this is the next best thing to really doing something.
I wonder how much longer players will be allowed to wear 'wife beater' undershirts?

I dont agree with it because I understand the phrase as it is meant, a term of endearment. But considering not everyone is from south Louisiana & they don't understand the origin of the phrase, I can see where the NFL has to play the PC & negative publicity game. Violence against women is a huge,& rightfully so, problem & in light of the recent Ray Rice fiasco, no way the NFL allows questionable wording to be a part of the game experience. When picking a name for a product that you intend to market nationally, & internationally, one should take into consideration the fact that what is acceptable in one region, may not be acceptable, or may hold negative connotations, in another region.

I agree 100% (see my original post). Some words/phrases/sayings, outside of their region of origin, are not acceptable because they can be misunderstood.

While needing explanation really does kinda ruin the name, that's not a bad sentiment. What I never understood is why the commercial had her put on a catcher's mask to avoid facial trauma.

All I meant was that it was not a phrase used only in Cajun country. I grew up in VP and never heard anyone say it until my roommate from Michigan said it when I spent a summer in DC during college.
