If they are great fridges, he wouldn't be looking for a new one. Best bet is to buy maytag, amana, whirlpool. Personally i'd stay away from LG, Samsung, etc.

Watch the sales. I got this bad boy at Lowe's Black Thursday month four years ago for $1299. Couldn't be happier with it.

The ice maker not working might have something to do with the defroster freezing over. Our Samsung was set up in our living room for several months while our kitchen was being remodeled. The water line for the ice maker was not connected during that time and there was frost in the freezer the entire time. Once the fridge was moved back into the kitchen and reconnected to the water line, the freezer went back to working perfectly.

Too much useless info?

You probably have a plugged defrost drain. It's an easy fix.

Stay away from Samsung and LG for appliances.

Go with Kitchen Aide.

= Whirlpool

They are okay.

Frigidaire seems to be the longest lasting of the Energy Star units that have adaptive defrost control (which sucks across the board, if you have a fridge with a timer control hold onto it)

Dude, call his arse back out. I give 180 days on anything I touch, he MUST have some warranty.

This is what causes that problem

No Darla, you are 100% correct, when you have icing issues the resevoir tends to freeze and this prevents water flow to the ice maker and the dispenser or ice is simply frozen in the ice tray fill tube.

If you have ICE it's a busted drain plug 100% of the time, if you have FROST it's a defrost failure. Samsung's generally have thermistor failures, or failures of the defrost terminator. It could be a heating element as well, but 9/10 it's that little $15 sensor.

A lot of techs do not know how to work on Korean units and misdiagnose them, or worse, just change a whole bunch of random parts (we call them parts changing monkeys)

OP here is the Fast Track diagnostic for your unit.

diagnostic manual.

Step one, call that tech back, tell them if they do not return you are calling the BBB(toothles but scares some) and will leave negative Yelp, Angie's list and Google reviews... They will come back out.

Great advice, Napoleon.

My husband got a new windshield put in last week and cracked it the same fricking day. Crack spread immediately. Guy charged him $100 less to replace the windshield again. I wish I could have had your advice on that one.

I was so pissed, I put the kids in the car and went to the park.

Words never said by Darla's husband.

A number of times during the remodel, I theorized that the frosting in the freezer had something to do with the ice maker not being connected. When we moved it back to the kitchen, I noted that everything was working again. A few weeks later, my husband said something to the effect, "Look, it's working again! I wonder if it was the water line."
