Crown Black? They already have Platinum 6% why this one? Anyone tried? I noticed our 7-11 has a big display of it.

they are trying to market to the BMC crowd that is too afraid to drink real craft beer, but want to seem cooler than normal bud drinkers, so they relabel their same beer over and over again to appeal to these people
I guess it works because I keep seeing people talk about it

I mean, it's not bad for what it is. It's not going to be as good as tons of other quality beers, but not bad for a BMC product. And it's 4000x better than Platinum, but it isn't that hard being better than that pickle juice tasting shite.

I'm a pretty big craft beer drinker. Black crown is by no means as good as most craft beers, but it certainly isn't the same as Platinum.

Crown Black
Platinum
Even if these weren't BMC products, i wouldn't drink them. I don't see beer as this high polished, club drink.
It's beer. It's science, not an energy drink. It's a delicate combination of elements that through time, ingenuity, and hard work, produces a fine beverage.
Stick to bud light/budweiser. Though us craft drinkers don't care for it, you at least get the respect of making a quality lager that is hard to replicate, yet you do it billions of times.

Seemed like every other commercial during the Super Bowl was for Black Crown. I haven't had it and don't plan on having it.

this. and, if you have seen the documentary Beer Wars, BMC have an incentive to create as many ridiculous products as possible because it helps them dominate shelf space. That way they can limit craft beer access to prime shelf space in stores. I think this is getting more difficult as the market power of craft beer increases but this has historically been part of the BMC strategy to limit craft market growth.

This is actually a new beer, but go on with your inside info

I doubt I would like it and will probably never try it. But I plan on buying a 6 pack or two every so often just to show support for BMC products.

Miller did this years ago (and still does if you consider the breweries they've bought out) and basically had a monopoly on all of the spigots at any given bar. Those a little older here might remember Red Dog (Miller), Icehouse by "Plank Road Brewery" (Miller, because it's located on Plank Road in Milwaukee). They're very clever when it comes to duping the general public into thinking that they're getting something besides Miller.

I've seen similar statements on here a number of times.
I don't understand how a brewery labeling beer under a different brand is somehow a deceptive practice. IMO it's no different that Toyota relabeling Lexus and Scion vehicles.
If you are concerned about who brews the beer you are drinking then look up the brewery before you buy it.

This would be the first sign not to buy..

I don't lose any sleep over it but I think people call it deceptive because BMC makes a concerted effort to limit how easy it is for consumers to link these products to them. It is a clear marketing strategy.
There was an interview with a Coors executive who admitted that they did there best to minimize consumer ability to link Blue Moon to them. They know that some proportion of consumers will be less inclined to buy the product if they know it was made by BMC. It is smart marketing but it shouldn't be socking that some consumers might think that it is a dishonest practice.
