Decided to start cellaring wine that I've been buying. I have a spare room to do this. I'm trying to decide what would be better and more cost efficient...a 200+ bottle wine fridge or turn the closet into a cellar. The closet is 10 ft wide X 10 ft tall X 4 ft deep. Of course, I would need something installed in the closet to keep at optimal temps. Anyone care to share their expertise?

200 bottle fridge can be filled pretty quickly if you're serious about buying wine. I would look at putting in a cellar.

Make sure to call your insurance company. They will usually put a cap on what you can cover when it comes to wine.

Cellar strictly for the aesthetics. Both would lead to the desired effect so why not go all out

What is the approx cost to convert a closet this size into a cellar? I assume you'd need to seal the door pretty heavily. Any concern structurally with humidity and continuous cold temp?

My uncle had a cellar put in a year ago. Are you in the NOLA area? I can get you a phone# for the guy who did the work.

Is the wine you are buying cellarable? Throwing a random number out there, but say 90% of wine should be drunk within a few years of being released. How many bottles a week fo you drink?

So if you just want to amass a wine collection, which hey nothing wrong with that, just store cases in a closet. Put money towards fridge or cooling unit into more wine.

If you really need to climate control for a smaller section of your entire inventory, see if you can rent space at someone else's wine cellar.
