Pilfered some last week when they were out of town.

How anyone would prefer oranges over Satsumas is beyond me. What say you?

It is very, very late for satsumas. They start ripening in early October and are usually at their peak before Thanksgiving. The trees are about to begin flowering again....wait too much longer and the fruit will be overripe and fall off the tree.

My Grandma, in Vermilion Parish, had several trees in her yard. I would make myself almost ill I would eat so many. They are divine.

Love me some satsumas.

A client just gave me 2 dozen big beautiful lemons off his tree.

And more are coming.

A friend gave us dozens of navel oranges this year.

They were absolutely the best ever. Sweet, juicy, and delicious.

I definitely prefer a good Louisiana navel orange but my wife and kids like satsumas better.

I have a 3 year old tree that hasn't produced much thus far. I don't think it had any fruit on it last year which is apparently normal from what I've read. Anyone have tips for new-ish citrus trees?

A few years back when I lived on heavenly Braithwaite soil, I had a La. sweet orange tree and a navel orange tree. They produced so much we could fill garbage bags - too much to give away off just 2 trees. I used to make fresh orange juice all the time. Just amazing. That old neighborhood is a ghost town now - it didn't rebuild after the hurricanes - but I passed through there a year or so ago and the trees are still standing and still cranking them out.

La satsumas are the best, especially after the first cold snap.

Friend of mine has about 10 acres of these growing, by far the best on the planet. My one satsuma tree does well most years.....
