Well not a full kitchen per se, but I'm planning on building something that will have my BGE and a jambalaya pot built in. The top of the pot would be flushed with the countertop. Anyone ever heard of this being done? Would like to hear suggestions if so.

Eta: 5 gallon pot

Is the jambalaya pot removable, if not that could be a pain in the rear to clean.

Well you would be able to remove it, but only the inside has to be cleaned. So unless something goes wrong there wouldn't be a need to take it out.

Sounds like a big ole mess. Even if there wasn't a boil over the outside of the pot always has some gradoo.

Not to mention the nearby countertop from splatter.

When you put water in to clean it, get the rice off the bottom etc etc, you going to use a vaccum to suck the water out?

What are the advantages to this sort of set up? It seems strange and I'm trying to picture it.

I will be doing something similar at my new house. But the burner will be set below the rest of the counter tops. I want it easily removable for reasons stated above.

I'm actually thinking about putting in a blaze power burner recessed down, like a primo or BGE, opened in front so I can do small batches of jambalaya or fry fish in my cast iron. Also has a removable wok ring.

I don't like the pot being built in. for one, it limits you to only one pot. As others have said, cleaning will be an issue.

i know it sounds weird. basically i just want to be able to walk outside and cook in a kettle pot without having to set it all up and stuff. also, being built into the countertop, it would be easy to chop vegetables and just throw them in the pot.

as far as cleaning, ill just have to do my best to keep a good surface on it and not get lazy. if thats the case ill never have to boil water in it to clean it

You've seen a pot that just sits outside right? Not in a garage or anything, just on the back porch with the lid on it.

LOL, you must be from Minnesota...

On topic, I'm curious as to your logic with this idea. I can't think of a practical yes but can think of tons of no, gradoo being one of them...

I don't think it has to be built in as a drop in to your counter to be set up all the time. Can't you just leave the set up near your cooking area right next to the counter? I think it'll have more negatives than positives. I can see stuff oozing down between the pot and the counter just growing all manner of crud.

No pulled it from the internet. My dad has a similar set up at his house. Burner is only a cadillac, but could be changed to jet to boil crawfish.

Friend of mine basically has this in his outdoor kitchen but it's for a crawfish pot. Works very well actually. Top of pot sits counter height. Keeps everything neat so you don't have hoses and a tank sticking out for kids to bump into.

A friend of mine has an area like the one below with the pot on it, but without burners. It's just a huge lower shelf like the picture. He puts his big fryer there to fry or his boiler there to boil with the attachments. Easy to clean and easy to leave the set up as is when not in use. Counters are on either side of it to chop/prep.

Pictures aren't great but I have a power burner that is recessed.
