Costco in BR has live mussels at an great price of $2.99 lb., the pack date on them was today, so I bought a 4.5lb bag for a little over $13.

I have only had mussels once, in Paris, and have never cooked them, with a little research In found Ina Garten's recipe:

Mussels

This was not hard to prepare, I looked at a youtube video and with her recipe cleaned and had them ready to cook.

This was a great dish, with some toasty French bread we pigged out, there was enough for 4 and I have a lot left over.

If you have any cooking skills at all, get away from your comfort zone and try these great mollusks.

Well, I'm glad yours were good. When I tried to steam mussels (TWICE!), they were too ocean-y tasting.

And they're only $10 at Bonefish. So I'll continue going there for a couple glasses of wine and the mussels

I was exploring Albertsons for the first time after moving to Baton Rouge, looking to make my first dinner. Albertsons has a sack of PEI mussels, so I decided to go with them because they're very easy to prepare. In my hand basket, I simply had the sack of mussels, a clove of garlic, one shallot, parsley, and some white wine. I got to the checkout and was told that I couldn't purchase the wine because it was a Sunday. Knowing that I couldn't really make mussels without the wine, I told her to cancel the transaction.

Baton Rouge and I got off on the wrong foot, and it never got better.

We aren't really receptive to men with hand baskets so I can see why it didn't get better.

I don't buy mussels here because I've been poisoned by bad ones. To me they travel too far. I eat them when I'm on the East coast. I'll eat my weight in Louisiana oysters though.
