So over the past couple of years I've developed a fairly bad case of acid reflux and made some changes to my diet. However, both of the traditional brunch drinks have been eliminated. Champagne makes me vomit and the tomato juice gives me heartburn like you wouldn't believe, even Zapps crawtators gives me heartburn so it's pretty bad.

Anyone have suggestions for brunch related drinks that wouldn't create terrible heartburn or acid? My favorite drink is vodka and soda and I drink a lot of wine. The only drink that comes to mind would be a good sangria, so if anyone has a good recipe for that, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

This is not the question you wanted answered but just thought I would throw it out there for you. My mom and I both eliminated yeast and wheat from our diet and have no heartburn or acid reflux any more unless we eat those products. Even things that used to give us heartburn don't anymore unless we have been eating the wheat and yeast. Doctors say there is no connection but I have found it to be true. If I eat white bread or pizza crust I have indigestion every time.

Thanks for the advice. Although, I eat those a lot and they generally never give me any problem. It's spicy food, coffee, etc. I have indigestion every morning, afternoon, and night, just some foods make it worse. I eliminate them once I notice a pattern.

I guess I should throw out there I have a hiatal hernia in my esophagus so that's the main reason for the reflux.
How do you cut those things out of your diet? Do you not eat bread? I'm not very knowledgeable re: wheat and yeast.

I used to have the reflux problem a few years back, and that shite is as bad as can be. I walked or drove to stores at the wee hours of the night for antacids to deal with it. By the grace of God I haven't had a bout with it for a few years.

PS" think about a smoothie with the vodka as a way to start the day.

OJ probably won't do the reflux any favors, but Brewmosa's are great.

OJ and a Trippel (or anything with a good bit of hops)

Ummm, I don't want to be a killjoy, but if you have bad acid reflux you need to lay off the alcohol completely. If that's a problem than that's the problem.

i should also lay off coffee but i know my limitations and i love it so i sacrifice a little. i maybe have a drink of alcohol once every 2 weeks and i maybe get drunk once every three or four months.

i really like the smoothie idea. a lot of these sound great. except grapefruit juice.. that tastes like drinking OJ after brushing your teeth.

I am in that boat, I love coffee and decaf is just not the same, although River Road's Organic whole bean decaf is excellent, but you're right, alcohol does not seem to be an issue, it is for me. Almost any caffeine or alcohol has a price to pay in my esoph.

sorry to hear that. i tend to have violent hangovers so i only get out of control on special occasions (last one was grad school graduation in december). it takes me a day or two to fully recover so it's rarely worth it.

my coffee addiction is CC's between roast.

I take Nexium myself. An hour before eating.

And I try not to drink unless I've had something to coat my stomach food-wise. Nothing too heavy.

I seem to do well with White Russians. But I know cream/dairy jacks people up.
