It's just so damn disappointing to me.
I get it but even going to the brewery and the tour won't be the same. Just a MC talking head tour. The story is history.
Their partnership with the local coffee roaster for the coffee stouts is tainted.

Let's not act like all of us wouldn't do the same thing if in their shoes.

Wow, crazy. Even if they change nothing the brand is forever tainted.

Trust me, it won't be the same with directives coming from way elsewhere that has no pulse on the local grassroots efforts in the brewing community. Forget it, they had a good run. Time to move on and support the local breweries.

I absolutely would. That's completely irrelevant to my personal disappointment.

Athens is like this iconic haven for "local". Terrapin felt like the cornerstone of that feel to me. Almost like an oasis.

Good for the owners. Great success story and I hold no ill will toward them at all.

BUT I never want to hear the "we are just in it to make great beer" bullcrap from a brewer.

I know I'm being dramatic. Don't gaf.

Just the tip of the iceberg. Expect more of these acquisitions to become more frequent. Money will always prevail.

You capture my thoughts about this well.

It's like Walgreens taking over the local pharmacy. Even if it is the same products the heart has been cut out.

What makes local breweries so awesome are the direct interactions with their customers and crafting their beers based on feedback and suggestions. Try doing that with Coors.

I went to a Tenth and Blake Brewers Unleashed event at MillerCoors HQ last year and they brought in Terrapin.

Solid beer, though an interesting acquisition that you hate to see.

What the hell did I miss? They bought the brand and state they will allow current management to operate the business unit. Do you believe M/C will force changes on their product? I doubt they will and could possibly allow for greater experimentation. M/C could operate Terrapin as a R&D unit.

Who doesn't want a Hopsecutioner in a vortex bottle??

MMCGA!!

And Terrapin had such a huge local influence partly because Athens is so small.

I imagine Jittery Joes, the local coffee place, feels like they lost a friend.

Between my wife and I we have 2 UGA grads and 2 there now and they have such a love for local Athens things and Terrapin was one of those places that locals had such pride and good feelings about.

Pretty much exactly what Bud said about Goose Island. It's...suspect.

Terrapin made a few really good brews. I expect that in time the quality will begin to decline as their supreme pisswater overlords look to shrink the margins in order to maximize profits.

OBrah for me it's not so much about the product as it is the loss of the local icon. Hard to explain.

Peche selling to Applebee's?
Cafe Du Monde to Dunkin Donuts?

Leinenkugel would be the better example. Great stuff once upon a time that turned into absolute garbage after acquisition.
