The Good:

Pretty, warm space with nice lighting.
Friendly staff.
BYOB with no corkage fee.
Certificates available on Restaurant.com
Great Mid City location.

The Bad:

The food is just o.k. There's no other way to put it. My dining companion and I both felt the same way about it...underwhelmed.

To start, we shared the appetizer tray. Nothing on it wowed us. The failures on it were...the pork belly, which was undercooked, making it chewy instead of crispy...and the pig tail. It was hard and chewy. The lumpia was good.

For our entree, we shared the combination chicken and pork adobo. The chicken and ribs were cooked perfectly, but I found the entire dish to be too salty. This was served with jasmine rice. The rice was undercooked.

I REALLY wanted to love Milkfish. I love that chef Christina started as a pop up and found her way to her own place. I love the addition to Mid City. But I just wasn't in love with it after experiencing the food...and this was after a bottle of proseco.

I doubt I'll find myself back at Milkfish with so many other options right down the street.

Bump...

Read your review, but I had a different experience.

Okay, generally I stay away from adobo because my wife cooks the best. I mean it, her cooking runs circles around a lot of these places. I was upset about not having a chance to try several items on the menu because they were out? Leuchon Kawali was something I wanted to try on the appetizer menu.

Highlights

Lumpia - Good/ A safe play

Sisig - is the best I've ever tasted! Flavor just poping out the grounded chicken liver and pork face. The sisig is the most authentic dish, incredible!!!

Pinabet - the dish is a bit on the salty side with too much gravy. The ribs were okay but I found the dish lacking consistency. Overkill on the tomato sauce. I am going against the grain on 95% of the reviews on this one.

Desserts

Turon - Good/ Safe play most places

Cassava Cake - Unbelievable! Must order*** Best Dessert

Halo-Halo - Everyone raves about this on the reviews but my wife and I weren't feeling the love. Again we are going against the public on this one.

Overall Very Solid! Great introduction to Filipino food for New Orleans.
Kare Kare
Adobo - Pork Chicken
Sisig***
Pinabet
All staples in Filipino cooking

A few dishes were missing when I asked on Saturday. Christina has already turned this popup into a well respected resturant. The atmosphere is 7-8 tables with cool art and a bar. Mimosa was delicious! I would encourage everyone to at least try this resturant if your searching for new foods. Koodos to Melt Fish!

Glad you enjoyed Milkfish, I'm a fan too.

I've only been to the stand alone restaurant once, but I hit the pop-up on several occassions. The lumpia and sisig were my favorites, but not sure I've ever tried any of their desserts. I need to get back over there to try a few more dishes.

Sounds about right. I too was unimpressed. Good price point I guess. Worth trying once to form one's own opinion. I probably won't be back though.

I liked the popup. Haven't been to the restaurant yet. Do they have balut?

Only been once but all was very good- even the app sampler. Sounds like consistency is an issue. Every item was spot on for my table and we've been looking forward to round 2
