It's weird. Only catfish and bass. Like I said earlier I would be devastated if it was shrimp and crabs of shellfish in general.

Nope. Very good looking. Very dedicated. And extremely wealthy.

How do you come up with fat?

Really?

Both ways as long as they are not pre-made and then flash frozen. It just screams fast food burger joint. Made to order onion rings are the shits.

Only been there one time - about a year back. Had the thin sliced catfish platter and it was nice. Had a beer and it was cold. Had a country lady as waitress and she was sweet. Had a guy at the table beside ours who ordered the catfish platter. They brought enough fried fish to kill most people and all he did was complain that they were stingy with his fish portions.

I think he was about 350 pounds, maybe 395 - I would never make it as a weight guesser in a carney.

I'd go back, especially if I knew there would be better folks seated at the adjacent tables.

Yeh man I feel your pain. I judge seafood restaurants by their onion rings too.

Believe it or not, they have pretty good fried chicken if you like it simple...flour, salt & black pepper w/ not much else for seasoning. It comes as a 1/2 fried chicken plate with fries, cole slaw and toast.

One of the few restaurants around where you can still order a fried chicken plate and it's cooked to order.

I enjoy it but I'm usually the only one I see in the dining room eating it, though.

Wouldn't you expect a top notch seafood restaurant to make their own instead of offering pre-cooked frozen crap.

Absolutely. Hell, around these parts I thought the only places that served frozen rings were national chains.

Scott Boswell's Stanley does. Same product as at Middendorfs. I don't like those onion rings, so I just don't order them. I guess I get the gripe, but it's not a deal killer on the place itself. I still love Middendorfs.

Get the fried whole flounder.

Thanks for the review, a review from anyone, a FDB poster or the New York Times, is a personel opinion, not gospel, I appreciate the effort even if I disagree. I judge seafood restaurants by their gumbo and it generally has held true, crappy tasteless gumbo and they likely don't do other things well either.

I love a ride out to Missendorf's, either by boat across Lake Maurepas, or by car. It's a vibrant place full of people enjoying themselves, unless they're allergic to catfish. We usually have a few boiled crabs (when available) for an appetizer and fried catfish. My wife likes the soft shells and I've never heard a complaint, about the crabs at least. I don't remember if we ever got onion rings.

The last trip we had a guy with us from Michigan who hated seafood of any type, I cringed when he ordered a ribeye, but it looked like it was cooked perfectly and he enjoyed it.

Keep posting.

Can't believe some people are so obsessed with a restaurant that only serves thin fried catfish. It is nothing but batter. Waste of money.

Not true if done correctly.
