you guys think this is worth it? i am pretty sure that enameled cast iron is the right choice for me. This one has a lot of positive reviews, but I know some of yall are more amazon savvy. Is it a low enough price to pull the trigger or should I wait for a sale. any comments about this item or tips would also be appreciated. thanks in advance.

This might help

Tramontina 6.5-Qt. Cast Iron Dutch Oven
Crafted from enameled cast iron, the oven produced glossy, deeply flavored Belgian beef stew; fluffy white rice; and crispy French fries in the test kitchen. Its larger capacity (6.5 quarts) and even lower price made it our preferred choice over the Lodge (6 quarts.)

Lodge Enamel-on-Cast-Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven
Crafted from enameled cast iron, and like the Tramontina produced glossy, deeply flavored Belgian beef stew; fluffy white rice; and crispy French fries in the test kitchen. But the Tramontina oven's larger capacity (6.5 quarts to the Lodge's 6 quarts) and even lower price made it our preferred choice.

thanks for the heads up gee. I looked on amazon for the suggested tramontina and only found a non enameled version. I did a google search and found the enameled one for 54 and change. the price break between the lodge and the tramontina is negligible especially considering that I can get free shipping from amazon.

I got that exact pot from Target for around $55 this past December. Love it.

thanks for your input guys. Catman, did the one you saw at sams appear to be of good quality? was the seal between the lid and the pot cast iron to cast iron or enamel to enamel? the reviews for the lodge one are very strong, but of course if I can find a comparable one in the area for a lower price I may go that route.

I have a large cast iron skillet and have been toying with the enameled pot idea for some time. would you consider a good enameled cast iron pot to be essential in your day to day cooking? i am trying to move away from whats left of my starter nonstick set.

Been a while since I have seen the one in Sams.. If I recall it was exposed around the rim. I see the 2.6 quart one for 22 online. But Im pretty sure there was a 5-6 qt in the store.

I would say simular quality to loge.

Well essential is a bit much.. But It would be great to have for stews and such and would make a good small pot jambalaya.

I have that exact pot as well and love it. I definitely use it in my everyday cooking. It's my go to pot for soups, stews, red sauces, etc.

what about for gumbo or red beans? does it makes as good of a roux as a stainless pan or cast iron skillet? i end up making a fair amount of soups and spaghetti sauce so thats what i thought it might be suited for.

I have heard some people are scared making a roux in it because of the high heat but I dont see any issue with it.. Roux should be about the same.
