Anyone been?

Quickly and not so quietly, Lock and Key Whiskey Bar has established itself as a local mecca of everything whiskey. Right before the cold and ice set in across Baton Rouge, 225 Dine had a chance to speak with co-owner Arthur Lauck about a few unique options for those interested in discovering new whiskeys, bourbons and scotches. "There are such a wealth of experiences out there," Lauck says. "There are lesser-known options, too, that should be in everybody's whiskey vocabulary with amazing, nuanced flavors at an affordable price range." Up first on 225 Dine's tasting list was the Evan Williams Single Barrel bourbon, which Lauck describes as "surprisingly fantastic." "Everybody has had an experience with Evan Williams—good, bad or otherwise," he says. "The single barrel is the limited edition bourbon they do every year that, on its own, is wonderful and delightful." While the first sip provides a bite of flavor—woodiness, caramel and a little orange peel—the single barrel also hits you with a burst of spice. "This guy drinks well above its price point," Lauck says.

I've been a few times. I'm biased....Arthur is a good friend of mine. But it's a really nice place and they have a huge selection of whiskey. And Arthur knows his stuff.
They're catering to an older crowd, with live jazz and piano players.

It is where Glen's was next to Hooters on College. It still has the Glen's sign up so don't be confused. I enjoyed the bar, but it was dead when i went for Happy Hour on a Friday, I found that strange. Good drinks though, decent prices for middle of the road whiskey. Prices sky rocket if you want the high end stuff, but I think that is to be expected.

At College and Corporate, just to the left of Hooters. It's where Glen's used to be.
They really overhauled the interior of the place from when it was Glen's. It's got a good atmosphere.

It seems like a really nice place but they need to pour 2 oz shots instead of 1.5 oz on their premium liqours.

I think they're still finding their way and looking at things to bring in customers. (They opened the place two days after Christmas -- that's got to be the worst possible time to open a bar.) I went a couple of Fridays ago and it got more crowded later in the evening.

I went on a Tuesday night and it was fairly crowded, which was nice to see. Their whiskey selection is second to none in BR, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Hopefully it will do well because there's really nothing comparable in the area. They do need to work on getting a sign and spreading the word, but I was impressed and would definitely recommend it.

I want to make it but have not yet, they are doing a good job on facebook to tell what is happening, who is playing, etc. They need to keep doing that...

Ahh that's right. I almost went there a couple of weeks ago.

The sign thing should be fixed soon-ish. And they're working on getting the word out about the place. I think things will pick up now that we're moving into Mardi Gras season.
