I shite you not, Loves truck stops have awesome beef jerky! Very thin and dry. Very tasty too!

I have had it and it's better than any other store bought jerky. But they don't put enough seasoning on it. If they'd up the seasoning it would be very good jerky.

Eta: there's a website called bestbeefjerky.com. All they do is beef jerky reviews. I haven't bought any yet though.

The spicy sweet is damn good at Bucee's. They need one between Nola and Houston

That and the turkey jerky. I never understood why Bucee's hasn't opened a store somewhere between Orange and Houston for the La travelers. As many trips as I have made back and forth, they would have made a ton of money off me

Why does beef jerky sell for something like $30 a lb. on average? It is ridiculous. What else sells for that price?

I know. same when I see brisket selling for $11/lb at a bbq joint. you can buy a whole brisket for like $1.50/lb to smoke yourself.

its the prep. jerky takes a long time to make and you go through a lot of meat..you're looking at probably getting 3-4oz out of a pound of meat in jerky by the time you take all the moisture out.

What is the store between Shreveport and Dallas? It's a gas station we stopped at on the way from the lsu-Oregon gane and I cried when I ate the last piece.

Or buy the Rouse's brand beef jerky at $19/lb Hint: it's Bourgeois' beef jerky.

Do you mean it's actually Bourgeois jerky or it just tastes like it?.

I get my jerky from my good friend.

Green Light Jerky

Interesting flavor combos and a thin chewy but not too chewy texture. Garlic Parmesan and Prime Rib Dinner (PRD) are among my favorites. Great guy that started making jerky in his kitchen and now makes a decent chunk of change off of it.

I make my own but only during the winter because it requires leaving the oven on all night while I'm asleep.

+1 on the Bourgeois, but the jerky at Wayne Jacobs in Laplace (West 5th St) is also very good (if you like heavy smoke).

Jerky sales for 25-30 bucks a pound because first you trim it, then you brine it for three days, hang it and smoke for 6 hours, take it off of the racks, and then package it. It take three pounds to make one pound and it's labor intensive.

Please post if you find brisket at retail for $1.50/lb these days. The USDA market on brisket is over $2.00/lb at the plant. They still have to truck it to a distributor, who resells it to a grocery store, who has to mark it up. Brisket have been running $3.00-$4.00/lb or more at the grocery store. Smoked Briket yeilds about 48 percent and the restaurant has overhead. That's why it's $11.00/lb.

Deer jerky will ruin you for life. Simple to make in the oven, even easier with a dehydrator.

When I'm out of deer roasts and scraps and get lazy, I've ordered from LINK /

My favorite jerky is Pappy Kershenstine's Beef Jerky hands down. Been eating this one since the 80's.
