remember going there pre rum house and a group of guys asked the bartender to turn on some game on the small tv in the corner. And this old lady got up and and screamed, "UGH i come to the place so i dont have to put up with this." The bartender told her multiple people wanted to watch the game and the volume i believe was off. She said she wanted to close out and left.

They have two projectors now and screen that come down over the regular bar TVs for bigger games. I watched parts of a few LSU games there this past season... it's not a sports bar by any means but it's actually a good spot to watch a game.

I agree. I've done several Saints games, and their brunch on Sundays is damn strong. I go by myself a good bit during the week, so I'm glad they have TVs so I'm not staring at the bar like a lonely weirdo.

Could you bring kids there for happy hour or brunch? like a quiet 1 year old?

I don't think it's the location but the lack of original concepts they've tried on their the last few shots....yet another Mexican place, a bad Italian restaurant, and now Lasseignes. Tough to blame the location on those ventures failing. I never tried Lasseignses but never saw much of a reason to, the menu didn't look much different from similar concepts all over town.

The mexican place was good. I thought it closed cause Frankie Marcello owned the building and kicked them out to make his resturant.

Is that parcel of real estate just cursed? Seems like there are other eateries right around there that are thriving.

It closed because the food sucked. Calendars had good food and stayed there a long time.

you suffering from a touch of Downs Syndrome at the moment? I'll bet you $100 Rum House folds long before OoT? If either does.

Neither of them are going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm curious as to what's going to take over the McAllister's space. They had an application for an alcohol permit up for a while, but that might have just been the owner trying to entice a buyer/tenant.

There has been quite the fuhrer over it.

The double entendre was clever, but he didn't like the menu.

Paul is terrible and getting ripped in here, but what he said isn't wrong.

Olive or Twist is not thriving because of Rum House. The only thing Rum House did was bring more attention to Olive or Twist a few years ago when it opened. And even then, the place was doing okay. Rum House is definitely not the reason the place is killing it now.

Saying that Olive or Twist's success is tied to their proximity to Rum House... well that's just wrong. Olive or Twist was plenty successful for a few years before Rum House came along and fricked up the parking situation, which has fortunately been fixed. I don't think there's any doubt both of them benefit from the close proximity, but neither place owes their success to the other either.

It is and it isn't.

Exactly. The place was doing okay at best. The place felt empty more often than not, and the place seats about 25 to 30(pretty expansion)

No, but it's a main factor. Maybe the main one. It was a good bar that served great drinks that no one went to. They caught the overflow from rum house and then caught stride.

Everyone that went to the bar pre rum house openly says this when the topic comes up, which isn't a bad thing

They were not plenty successful. There was never a parking situation because the bar was the only business using the lot at night and it was rarely crowded like it is now.

I agree both benefit. Rum House owes none of their success to OoT. One can argue that Rum House is the reason OoT just had an expansion and is thriving. Hell, without Rum House, Olive or Twist could be mentioned in the places to close in 2017 BR thread right now.

Before Rum House, my group of friends would pick OoT if we wanted a good liquor drink or wanted an empty to average crowd bar.

Seemed like it to me, and I went a good bit before and after Rum House. More lately because I moved to that area, but it was always on my radar.

Aside from Rum House, what's exactly thriving over in that area?

Sushiyama
Ichiban
Sushi Masa
Roman's (not sure how)
Italian Pie (really have no idea how they're still open, it's always empty)
Heads N Tails
Mr Gatti's

Seriously though, all three of those sushi places stay packed. And sushiyama is the absolute best in town, IMO.
