This is now the third establishment at that location to die--Calendar's and Frankie Marcello's previously. Is that parcel of real estate just cursed? Seems like there are other eateries right around there that are thriving.

Only explanation given for closure was "unfortunate circumstances."

Aside from Rum House, what's exactly thriving over in that area?

Less than 100 yards from Rum House. Their success is largely predicated by proximity to Rum House.

You do realize that Olive or Twist was there first, right?

Is the parking a PITA in that location? Seems I recall a long walk from my car to the front doors of Calenders long ago with other business taking up a good deal of parking.

It might not be a great location for a restaurant but Lasseigne's and Maecello's sucked.

Wasn't it a Mexican joint for a little while too?

Was going to olive or twist before rum house was open. Somehow despite the parking nightmare over there both places seem to be doing well.

Generally can get pretty good drinks at olive or twist. Haven't sat down in the new restaurant yet though. I can take or leave rum house....

Never been to rum house, but I go to olive or twist twice a week.

Once again, you prove to be the worst poster on this site.

I think curb appeal is a huge factor. I drive by there all the time and never notice it. That complex is well shaded and doesn't give off the look of a restaurant.

Yup. The place isn't very inviting from the curb. Place needs a remodel for a restaurant to be successful there.

Also, I think the renovations to the Staring shopping center near by will help future restaurants. Sometimes the best thing for restaurants is more development, even other restaurants, nearby.

Tough location
Impossible name to pronounce or spell correctly
Zero marketing/advertising effort.

I think 2017 is going to be a year of notable restaurant closings in the BR area unfortunately.

not true that place always had advertisements on the radio.

And Yes Olive or Twist was there before Rum House, and way better than Rum house, would still be open if Rum house wasnt there, and Paul Allen is one of the worst posters on this site. But I think the huge boom in olive or twist which spurred the expansion, was the over flow from the Rum House fad crowd.

The OoT folks will admit that Rum House brought them larger crowds at first because a lot of people didn't know it existed, but I wouldn't say that's the case anymore. People have realized how good OoT is. I go a few times a week. If I was a single male, every first date would take place there.

i remember going there pre rum house and a group of guys asked the bartender to turn on some game on the small tv in the corner. And this old lady got up and and screamed, "UGH i come to the place so i dont have to put up with this." The bartender told her multiple people wanted to watch the game and the volume i believe was off. She said she wanted to close out and left.

I wonder how she feels now with the expansion.
