Headed to Napa with the wife mid-September. Wanted to do French Laundry but missed the supposed 30 day window for a reservation and heard from a few people that La Toque was comparable without the stress of getting in and less money. We plan to the chef's tasting menu, anyone been to La Toque and agree with that? Should I try for another reservation somewhere?

We have another dinner to plan after a wine tour that includes a picnic so I'm not sure how hungry we'll be come that evening. We have to plan 1 lunch as well. We'll be a week in San Fran/ Napa, I've already accepted I'm going to gain 10lbs on this trip. Any food experiences you think we shouldn't miss? Cost is largely not a factor but value is always a nice consideration.

La Toque is very good, but nowhere close to French Laundry.

The dining room is very bright, which was a little odd to me.

Still damn good, though.

Wish we could've gotten into French Laundry but work sprung this trip on me last week so I'm using it as an opportunity to get there and back on the company dime. I kinda thought I was being hopeful about justifying La Toque in comparison to FL, any place you'd suggest over it?

French laundry is 300 bucks per person plus wine
I'm certain its spectacular but the law of diminishing returns has to apply at some point

I bet you can find world class eats in that area without that kind of price or pretense

That's what I thought too, La Toque has or had a Michelin Star so I'm confident we'll have a nice experience. I also think we'll be in the $500 range for the two of us all said and done, just checking in to see if anyone could save us from any possible regret.

Farmstead looks really good, will definitely consider this. A steakhouse might be little heavy considering the daily gluttony but I'll look at it as well. You think you'd do that over La Toque?

Muchas gracias.

My wife and I are going next week.

We are going to Farmstead one of the nights and we're going to Celadon the other night. Both came highly recommended.

Just looked up Celadon, looks really good too. I am astounded by the overwhelming number of seemingly great places to try. Do report back with your favorite things, we'll be looking forward to hearing anything you have to say.

Dinner on the balcony at sunset at L'Auberge du Soliel.

Bottega was really good as well.

I'll be looking for you Beardface. I'll be out there with my wife as well. We are doing 4 days in Napa and 4 days in Sonoma. Can't remember where we are eating in Sonoma, but in Napa I know we are doing Farmstead, Auberge du Soliel, Bottega, and Redd's. I think most of our lunches are private meals at small wineries.

Bottega is really good.

You can go to Bouchon (Thomas Keller). Its pretty good.

Also in Yountville, Bistro Jeanty had a very good oyster special at happy hour the last time we were there. West Coast oysters (small) but tasty.

Redd is a fantastic restaurant. Went with a large group and essentially tried one of everything. Great sommelier as well who steered us around what is a very imposing list.

Thanks everyone for the recs. I think we're going to add Farmstead to our trip for our last dinner. It sounds like our BnB will be filling in the free time we had around lunch. We might be wiped out and full by the time we get to Farmstead but we made a late reservation with the hopes of resting up beforehand.

Still have our last day pretty open near Muir Woods if anyone has a recommendation around Tiburon.

Will report back in a few weeks when we return...

I had a great meal at Balboa in Mill Valley a couple of weeks ago. Near Tiburon. Even ran into Gavin Newsome.

Meadow wood has a nice tasting menu, when you can't get into French Laundry.

Was in Napa in July and had dinner at Ad Hoc one night and Redd Wood another. Both were casual places but very good.

About Tiburon/ Mill Valley, I got a recommendation I don't necessarily trust from someone at work. Anybody have anything to say about Luna Blu?
