I'm not sure of the name of the place, but they also serve kolaches at that new donut shop on Essen, in the same shopping center as Ichiban. I got a boudin, and a chedder and jalepeno one last weekend and both were delicious. Of course, I had nothing to compare it to because I had never had a kolache before.

Ed's Donuts. Really nice guy, best blueberry (cake-like) donuts I've had. My husband likes their kolaches, but I've never tried them. A lot of donut shops around BR seem to have a limited selection of kolaches--usually sausage or sausge/cheese.

Kolache Kitchen is different from the donut shop selection in that they have different types of kolaches, empanadas, "rancheros", and breakfast tacos. Some sweet fillings but mostly savory. The savory items have meat, meat and cheese, or some mix egg along with a meat or potato. Besides the regular sausage/dough concoction, most of them have some type of kick to them (added salsa?), although the breakfast tacos have the salsa on the side.

The drive thru was a bit of a cluster so I had to do the dreaded "pull forward move."

They typically do this at the Nicholson location if you order tacos and there is a long line. They cook the tacos upon order, but the koloaches are already made, so they'll have you pull up so they can get other people their food. Doesn't bother me, I've only had great service there.

I'll have to check out the new one if they're serving lunch.

Jeff Hildebrand's wife opened up a shop in River Oaks and she only serves Prasek's sausage in her kolache's. They are legit. Everything in her store is quite tasty. Highly recommended if you are in Houston.

I lived in La Grange Texas when I was a kid and I can remember in stopping by a place on our way to school in the morning and getting kolaches. My mom used to tell me they were known for their kolaches. This was around 1981-82. I still remember how good they were and have thought about these over the years.

Jalapeño cream cheese and bacon FTW

I've been wanting them to incorporate cream cheese in their kolaches like a lot of Texas locations do. I'm a big fan of the chicken fajita empanada

I enjoyed a few kolaches from Kolache kitchen this morning. Their dough is very good, it has a slight sweetness to it. Boudin Kolache was great.
